The problem is that NG clearly don't want to listen, at least not to non-Chinese audiences. This seems to be twofold.
Firstly, I feel they have had some disappointments with releases in the past that have come from suggestions and have also been over bombarded with thousands of requests. They don't know what a good release choice is anymore and have blanked out the noise. Certainly, the relationship they attempted to build with Western collectors has largely been discarded.
Secondly, the leadership at NG clearly doesn't rate anything that isn't ultra-modern and also doesn't understand Western markets, which makes it a challenge to get releases 'right' in an interesting way. I have heard several times that NG has got multiple stakeholders, and this is maybe partly why they seem to be undertaking such a scattergun approach doing everything all at once. There is no one voice.
Part of the issue is also that they remain very secretive. Without understanding things like their MOQ it is hard to give good suggestions. I still communicate with them, but they are not open with me the way they used to be and a lot of what they have said to me hasn't come to pass. I don't think that is malicious, but it is symptomatic of the points above.
The result is a spiral of odd model decisions and costly undertakings, which appear to have led to financial problems that have slowed down everything and just annoy collectors more. In some ways I do think collectors have contributed to at least poisoning the golden goose, but ultimately NG has done a lot of this to itself.
It also appears, as others have said, that the 'Year of Classics' was never intended to be anything but an internal Chinese message discussing Chinese models.
My disappointment is palpable with all of this, but they don't seem to want my, or anyone else's, help so all we can do is look on.

Yeah, NG clearly has no clue about anything not Chinese. They probably fill half their release slots with oft-requested Chinese stuff, and stick anything "famous" that comes to mind into the rest, without giving it much thought. Hence the dominance of US/ME regs, shafted APAC airlines, lack of classics etc.
It seems like investors also demanded unreasonably fast expansion. NG thus developed a slew of new moulds and gimmicks to set themselves apart (CRP, Ultimate Collection). This stretched their resources too thin, leading to declining quality, delays, late CRP stuff etc. Less revenue from delays + sunk cost developing moulds and gimmicks -> financial troubles. Sometimes it's smarter to stick to the basics.

What happened to the old researchers of NG? Back in the days of the very obscure and intricate releases of Boeing 757s.
There used to be a wide variety of liveries, classic and modern, many hybrids and short-lived schemes, airlines from small countries, etc.
NG was able to impress and that suddenly came to a halt. Too bad the leadership changed.

Also hoping that N86 is a Southwest 737-800 in the Triple crown One or Nevada One or Warrior one
The A7 777 is hopefully a Qatar 777-300 but a 777-200 LR Cargo or Passenger is more likely…

I agree - right now both are labelled as (n/c) which would be problematic?
For the Team D Olympic sticker, D-ABYA would need to be in the darker 'new' scheme, with the smaller tail logo, afaik?

3 LH 748s and still no Fanhansa, so that's reserved for next month. That's 7 LHs and 4 ACs.
Given how repetitive NG's 748 releases are, surely it's logical they release all of the following: HL7644 Ultimate, HL7630 special livery, random HL 748 with Visit KR sticker... Right!?

was this one a typo? 9M-MSA is a B737-800. Malaysia also never operated the 777-300.
9M-MRA is the B777-200ER they had.
