NG: Special Release about MH370 (9M-MRO)

NG Models, July 25, 2024, 12:48 PM

On July 29, 2015, over a year after the mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, the first piece of debris was discovered on a beach in Saint-André, Réunion Island in the western Indian Ocean. The serial number on the debris confirmed it to be the right flaperon of the Boeing 777-200ER registered as 9M-MRO, which operated flight MH370.

This flaperon fragment is considered the first puzzle piece in uncovering the mystery of MH370's disappearance and plays a significant role in the investigation of the entire incident.

This year marks the 9th anniversary of the discovery of the first debris and the 10th year since the plane's disappearance. At the suggestion of model enthusiasts, we have specially produced a 1:400 scale model of the Malaysia Airlines 777-200ER registered as 9M-MRO. The product is expected to be delivered on July 29, and pre-orders are welcome.

Releasing a model of MH370 is crazy but I understand why NG would make it. JC made it a while back and I think that sold out instantly. Is it going to be like that China Eastern 737-800 that NG released where the accident aircraft was limited through the CRP program while a similar, non-accident aircraft was released alongside it?

as far as I know, it's not limited stock this time. plus the 9M-MRO has ultimate collection and the MH17 aircraft 9M-MRD only comes in standard. (yes, they also include the MH17)
here's the screenshot of one taobao shop pre-order page (price in CNY).
guess the foreign collectors are less sensitive to the aircraft involved in accidents (that's why no limit stock and not 'secret' release)

Wait there are still shops willing to sell them?!

I thought all Chinese shops just take them down due to "negative publicity" and NG is blamed as trying to gain from others misfortune...(吃人血馒头)

Btw Didn't someone just rushed to MH Social Media and want MH to intervene?🤯🤯

The NG Instagram is a mess right now. They put a post up about these releases and the general consensus in the comments seems to be negative. People seem to be most offended by how flashy the packaging is, given the scale of the disaster. For example, here's one of the stories from a person I follow and their opinions

I don't think releasing this as a model is bad, but I will say I do agree with the issues with the packaging, it could have been done a lot less flashy.

per my check just now at Airmall it's still available for pre-order.
while in general most of the collectors condemn such release plan, there is no law against it and there are indeed few who collect such type of aircraft.
plus, it's not the first time they have done it (B-1791 before) but considering MH is a foreign airline, they might face fewer restrictions from legal/governance (if there is after all) regarding the "negative public opinion".

I'm not sure about the MH social media complaint story but let's see how it develops.

personally I wont be buying and I think it's not cool to have both aircraft to be released. Especially the way they separately mentioning about what happened.

Eh, folks will cry about it online while gleefully snatching one up for their collection.

Yes it's opportunistic and perhaps insensitive, but the demand is there and companies love their dinero.
