NG Models January 2024 Release Hints

Their releases becoming more and more awful. Reminds me of GJ's monthly releases, which are just as boring.

Awful.......simply awful. So repetitive and bland. My hunch about more Swoops was right, which is a giant missed opportunity for Air Canada and WestJet Max 8s, which would've been much more interesting. Even the good release on paper (the Southwest Heart livery 737s) will probably have a shade of blue that is too dark. This has to be one of the worst release sets that NG has put out.

Are they desperately trying to clear the backlog from their factory before the 'Classic' releases roll out? Putting out this many recent re-releases has to have some type of explanation.

Really terrible release, who on earth is buying all of these swoop 737s? It an airline no one has heard of and doesn't even exist anymore so I don't see why NG is obsessed with them.

As a European I am bitterly disappointed that we have not had a narrow body in nearly 6 months and by the looks of things, NG clearly aren't interested in anything european that isn't a 787...

It's a NoGo month

They got a lot of my money last month - probably the most number of NG's I've ever pre-ordered till date - this month's evens that out I guess

The SWA 737s are the only decent thing in this set imo, the thing is, they have to be making good money off these releases still though right? Cause they still have the capacity to do large releases and still release unwanted releases. So part of me thinks that NG still makes money off these but I still wonder why they do these??

I'm thinking NG is not really a monthly release manufacturer, but are trying to make themselves look like one. Probably does not cost them too much to make these, since they are basically re-releases. They use them as space fillers while they - hopefully - work on the next batch of real new releases. Even if some of these releases don't get a single order from retailers and have to be scrapped, it probably does not cost them much. If anything they can write it off as a publicity expense.

I genuinely wonder if designing a new livery and printing it constitutes the largest part of the total cost of producing one model, because otherwise why don't they just release diverse liveries like Phoenix? Very very curious about this.

IMO mould designing probably should cost the most but afterward shouldn't it just be some computer artwork and printing?

I remember when NG and GJ gave us very brief inside looks on the actual process or what the machines look like. It would be cool if we got a bit more of an idea on how the art work aspect goes from the computer to being printed, etc.

Designing a livery I don't think is that expensive given NG has done a fair share of specials a lot of other manufacturers haven't. I wouldn't know for sure but that's my thought.

Quite a cold set of releases. Not a fan of the TWA/ATA hybrid, didn't Buchannan do that one already? Lots of representation but again it's the same airlines getting made over and over.

Only one for me is the Southwest -700 spilts since I broke my Panda retailer exclusive one a while ago.

Designing and Research is the cost intensive process actually. Since it entails time and effort and specialised personnel, and a lot of iterative back and forth and approvals etc, to get it right so to speak - and also needs the creation of specialised and customised templates /screens etc to transfer onto the eventual tampo printing machinery.

@Barison400 / @Barison82 I'd imagine is more knowledgeable of the production designer process - but this is my understanding based on a lot of work I do as an architect and allied designer - where it's extremely time/cost intensive to produce something unique and customised, but economical to repeat with minor modifications

This answers a lot, thank you. So theoretically NG is cutting costs or trying to max out profits with slightly modified aircraft? Some of them I don’t get especially with the mismatched SWA 737 (funny enough I still think it’s neat).

What NG needs to invest in is a US spokesperson. If they can get someone from there to work with NG as to what they should release, their quality of choices would go way up.

A European one wouldn’t hurt either for those folks. They clearly have the money to do this but they’re not putting it in the right place IMO.
