Bake's 1:400 Collection

N161UW is a US Airways A321 delivered in January of 2001 and is still flying for American Airlines today in the standard scheme. This is the first US 321 made by GeminiJets back in 2009. They also made the sister jet N162UW in 2014 which I have photos of in this thread already (i’ll have to redo them at some point😎)

These GJ old A320s didn't age too well... 🥴

no they really haven’t but they were near top of the line back in the day. it’s not even an older landing gear/no antennas either, it’s the whole thing with these US 320s from this era, the paint work is a bit shotty in places, the nose looks a bit off (might just be mainly the cockpit window printing on these models?), the tail feels too small (?), having no antennas is just not standard in todays world too. These are already becoming nostalgia pieces than top of the line “best you can get” fleet builders…lol

Today we have 5 more models all from different airlines. It is loosely set around the year 2010!

Overview:
IMG_1647.jpg

Starting off with a Southwest 737-300 registered N394SW. It entered service in 1994 and served its whole life with Southwest until retirement in 2017. This model was released by GeminiJets in July of 2015 on a mould I really haven't seen much. I was a little disappointed to get this model at the time of release back then as it just doesn't resemble a -300 well. It sits too high off the ground a bit and the winglets are absolutely massive, just distracting from an overall good model. None the less, its an okay looking one in certain contexts, just not so much as a usual focal point.

IMG_1640.jpg

IMG_1665.jpg

IMG_1666.jpg

Next is N523VA, a Virgin America A319. This plane entered service in 2007 with the airline and had the nickname "Contents may be under pressure". In 2018, when Alaska took over the Airline, it flew with them until 2020 when it was stored. This model was released by GeminiJets in April of 2014. I don't think this bad 319 mould lasted many years after this release (at least I hope). Its just so bad and I have so many of them with the US Airways special 319s. Im actually planning on selling this model so if anyone wants it, leave a DM :)

Funny how Gemini traded an outdate A319/320 mould for an equally bad modern mould..

N423AS is a 737-900ER delivered to Alaska Airlines in 2013. It was installed with split scimitars in 2014 and is in the new livery as of 2020. This model was released by GeminiJets in September of 2014.

N589AA is an American Airlines MD-83 delivered to AA in 1991. It served with AA until retirement in 2013. This model was released by NG in March of 2024. It is my first MD in this scale and I just love this model. I hope to get more AA MDs sone day! I’d love to do a big 2000/2010s DFW diorama to show these guys off!

N998AT is a Delta 717-200, originally delivered to AirTran in 2002. In 2014 it was sold off to Delta along with a bunch of other 717s at the time and is still active with them today. This model was released by GeminiJets in July of 2023.

while debating with @LeoMuse747 over what color it is in another thread, i’ve decided to use today’s unusually good pittsburgh sunlight to capture some photos of some dark livery’s I own. Nothing realistic timeline wise but I decided to show a bit of action in today’s shots as well. I think most of the photos turned out really nice all things considered. These US Airways planes do seem more on the black side of colors compared to the navy. The more i’ve been thinking about it, the more i’m wondering if the navy blue comments come after seeing these planes get sun faded after being in service for however long. The sun just brings out those slight blue undertones and fades out that rich black color. Idk, just some passing thoughts…lol

Onto the photos!

N548AS is an Alaska Airlines 737-800 that was delivered to them in 2005. It used this livery until 2013 when it was changed to the standard white version at the time. This livery was a unique paint scheme created to celebrate being the first airline in America to have a website where you could book flights and buy tickets. In 2015 it received its scimitars and it is still active with Alaska today.

Cones are out, Jetway is attatched and passengers are starting to get off. Below, a belt loader is driving towards the luggage bay and stairs have been added for the cleaners and ground workers to get a head start for the next flight:

While the Alaska Airlines flight is busy getting turned around, a US Airways 737-300 gets ready to push back for a flight to PIT. The cones are being removed, the jetway is detached, and the go ahead for pushback begins:

N375US has been photographed here before but some better pictures never hurt ;) This guy is an OG USAir bird instead of an ex-AW frame like some were.

Just like the Alaska flight before, Cones get put out, the jetway is attached, and bags get loaded off as quickly as possible for its next turnaround:

The 752 I have also taken photos of before but why not take it out of the box on a great day like today!

The other two regionals at the gates are a CRJ-200 and an E145.

This CRJ is resting between flights to smaller communities. This one came from Harrisburg not long ago and will head to State College in a short while. He is currently getting gassed up and workers have just finished loading up the bags. Boarding will commence shortly:

This E145 will be heading out to PHL at the top of the hour. The last passengers are boarding and it’s just finishing up refueling.

That 757 shows its age well for being such an old mold! Love the ERJ-145 too!

Both very outdated moulds😅 That 757 holds such a special place in my collection though. I’m so happy mine came practically in mint condition which I was thrilled about coming from ebay for under 45$. I can’t wait to get my hands on the NG version someday (it’s been tough to get)…

It's a crime they released all those classic 757's all in the same year when NG still wasn't super relevant..

I’m sayin…I’m so mad I wasn’t really around in the hobby around that time. I fully “left” about a year before they first came out! lol

I sadly was collecting but thought we would be getting more of that and decided to pass and wait for more classic material to come out. I was wrong.

Hello All!

Today I have more photos of some AA planes. First i’d like to quickly show off the board i’ve been using to take most of these collection photos. I have recently taken great progress towards properly finishing it by adding grass and another concrete tone to the taxiway. It is not 100% to my liking yet but i’d say it is about 95% there for what I need. It was my first attempt at doing modeling grass and i’m not 100% happy with the results but it will do what I need for this project.

Here is an overview photo. The terminal would sit at the top left in that sliver of space, meant to be a facts of a terminal. I may have it 3D printed down the line or build one myself, not super important as i’ll be using ye ol Gemini terminal in its absence. It does the job I guess😅

Anyways, onto the photos!

First up on arrival is N760MQ. This E170 was delivered to BA CityFlyer in 2009. It was put in storage in 2020 and then picked up by Envoy (under American Airlines/American Eagle brand) and has been in this retro livery since. This model was released by GeminiJets in March of 2022. It’s the usual gemini mould for the Ejets and it’s one of their better moulds imo. The only downside to mine is that my engines tilt downwards a substantial amount. I can deal and the rest of my EJets are pretty okay.

Arrived at the gate from LGA, a belt loader drives up to meet the cargo hold and a worker moves the towbar to the nosewheel. Passengers have started to disembark via the jetway.

Next up is N185AN, an AA 757-200 delivered in 2001. American Airlines retired their 757 fleet in 2020 due to covid-19 and this frame was no different. This frame was converted to a freighter and acquired by FarCargo (Operated by West Atlantic Sweden) as SE-RLE. This model was released by GeminiJets in April of 2015. The same old same old gemini mould for this model…i’m happy NG produced a great mould alternative compared to these. Nothing beats how sturdy this mould is though. I have a ton of these and they never seem to break no matter how rough you are with them!

IMG_1944.jpeg

This is N401YX, a 2013 delivered E175LR to Republic Airways. It was delivered in these standard American Eagle colors but switched to wearing the Republic house livery in 2020. This mode was also released by GeminiJets in April of 2015, another great gemini product on a decent to great mould.

IMG_1946.jpeg

Lastly is this AA A321Neo. Registered N413AN, it was delivered to AA in 2020. This model is a November 2024 GeminiJets release. This is the first AA aircraft i’ve ever gotten in this livery that hasn’t been a sparkly mess. Aero was the worst with it in 2015 and Gemini had a model or two and quickly changed to a decent one. The e170 and 757 featured today were the first gemini color update. I am okay with it but it still had a bit too much sparkle. This 321Neo has basically no sparkle but has the nice grey color and shine like the real planes have. Finally after 10 years it is correct!🤩

Enjoy the photos! I have a small backlog now to post from whenever I get around to them so expect lots more soon! Hitting the end of my collection shortly lol. I’ll be doing an update on where i’m at with everything when that time comes, plus a little setup tour of where I’ll be doing my things and how I store my models! Lots of fun things to do!

an E190 in IAH in 2011? I thought the remaining ten 190s at that time were exclusively on the shuttle service between BOS-PHL-LGA?

Sorry, super late reply... I am not that familiar with US Airways E-190 ops timeline... But could it have been a positioning flight back to PHX or something like that? I remember posting that photo on some thread somewhere, and there being a discussion about their destinations out of IAH at the time, but it was too long ago.

N953UW was delivered to US Airways in 2007. in 2020 it was removed along with the rest of the fleet from service for fleet consolidation. In 2022, Alliance Airlines under the Qantas Link Brand picked the frame up and still fly it as VH-XVP. While the E170s were under the "Express" line, the E190s were all mainline due to the amount of seats in the aircraft. Kinda an odd but unique thing about these planes in the US/AA Fleets. I wish they lasted a bit longer. This is a 2016 GeminiJets release. The only time either a US Airways or AA E190 has ever been made in this scale. I hope to see another one released sometime in the future but chances are quite slim.

N808EX was a DHC-8-100 delivered to Allegheny in 1991. Allegheny at the time was a subsidiary to USAir, mostly flying the regional "Commuter service around the north east region. By 2004, USAir reorganized and the airframe was now flying under Piedmont Airlines, still a subsidiary to the then US Airways. It flew in the AA colors very briefly after the merger before being put to rest in 2017. This model was released by GeminiJets in late 2024. A lovely model to have for how short its service was in these colors. Will be making a couple appearances in my eventual PHL dioramas for sure.

Here's N953UW that I took at DCA in 2015 and in American colors at PHL in 2016.

As far as I am aware, they had 25 total birds and October of 2009 they sold off 10 of them. The rest should have been redeployed to boston for the “shuttle” routes to PHL and LGA. That’s from wikipedia so who knows on accuracy but I’ll dig a little bit to confirm. The E190s were mostly an east coast thing for a long time I know that. I don’t think they ever made it over to phoenix for scheduled service.
