Bake's 1:400 Collection

Wonderful pics and nice comparison of these three liveries on the A330! My favorite is the black livery... why do people call it "navy"? I see no blue in it 🤓 by the way, the DW A330 is a good mould in my opinion, too bad the nose section isn't that nice. Your Gemini version have a too pointy nose indeed.

About the paint bubbling, that's another issue, not related to zinc rot as far as I know

It is actually navy blue if you look at the real thing in proper sunlight! Either that or that’s partially sun fading at fault. Regardless, it is now maturing into my favorite livery of all time. Hoping American might take a crack at a retro version on an A321 down the line (probably unlikely with how dark and hot it would be for some destinations).

I actually have enjoyed the Dragon Wings mould, especially for how old it now is. Considering some of the other moulds around the early 2000s, this is far from the worst of the time. I really enjoy the removable landing gear as well, as simple of a feature as it is.

Glad to know it is a semi-common issue with the bubbling. If anyone has any further info on that it would be appreciated! I’m wondering if there’s something I can do to get rid of it or preserve it as much as I possibly can.

The girlfriend was away at work and I got some beautiful sunlight through the windows today so some more pictures have finally arrived! This time its an American Airlines showcase. Mostly newer arrivals and most are legacy US aircraft so the collection stays growing!

Here is the lineup for today:

First up! This is N416YX, an 11 year old E175LR delivered to Republic Airlines in 2013. It only flew under the American Eagle colors and was retrofitted with the wide winglets in 2015. It is still active today! Released by GeminiJets in 2018. While not a part of the legacy US Fleet, I decided to pick this guy up as Ive never had an E175 with these winglets in my collection. Lovely model indeed :)

Next up is N187US, delivered to US Airways in 2002 and flew with them through the merger. It is still flying today with AA in this current scheme shown today. This model was released by GeminiJets in 2018, a month before the E175 release. Not a perfect representation but more than good enough to do the job. I always preferred the A320series aircraft with the wing feces compared to the modern winglets. Performance aside, the wing fences are what made airbus' themselves for a long time and my brain has certainly latched onto that way of thinking lol. For those not in the know, all legacy US Airways Airbus' in AA's fleet still have their wingtip fences. All AA purchased and acquired aircraft all have the sharklets installed. Its a great way to differentiate between what airframes belonged to whom specifically. Mine arrived with a broken nose wheel that still has yet to be properly fixed but its sturdy enough just wedged in the slot, hence the slight odd angle to it.

N953UW was delivered to US Airways in 2007. in 2020 it was removed along with the rest of the fleet from service for fleet consolidation. In 2022, Alliance Airlines under the Qantas Link Brand picked the frame up and still fly it as VH-XVP. While the E170s were under the "Express" line, the E190s were all mainline due to the amount of seats in the aircraft. Kinda an odd but unique thing about these planes in the US/AA Fleets. I wish they lasted a bit longer. This is a 2016 GeminiJets release. The only time either a US Airways or AA E190 has ever been made in this scale. I hope to see another one released sometime in the future but chances are quite slim.

N808EX was a DHC-8-100 delivered to Allegheny in 1991. Allegheny at the time was a subsidiary to USAir, mostly flying the regional "Commuter service around the north east region. By 2004, USAir reorganized and the airframe was now flying under Piedmont Airlines, still a subsidiary to the then US Airways. It flew in the AA colors very briefly after the merger before being put to rest in 2017. This model was released by GeminiJets in late 2024. A lovely model to have for how short its service was in these colors. Will be making a couple appearances in my eventual PHL dioramas for sure.

A quick numbers update before more pics arrive in the next few days. A 2025 Q1 update if you will lol.

US AIRWAYS/LEGACY US AIRWAYS FLEET:
51/83 Complete (61%)
MAINLINE:
43/67 Complete (64%)
EXPRESS:
8/16 Complete (50%)

I have added two more models to my criteria, two that may become my kryptonite unless I want to shell out a chunk of change. They are the SMA MetroJet 737-200. Its a standard -200 but has the dark vader livery tail with a bright red fuselage. It has been the only MetroJet plane made in the scale so to the list it goes. I've been eyeing one on ebay for weeks now, I just do not want to shell out 120$ that quickly. Waiting mode:coffee:. The second one I mentioned in an earlier post about the US Airways 767-200s. Ive added the BA livery 767-200 with the reg N655US, same as the navy livery thats been made. I was back and forth on adding it to the list but if it makes this challenge a bit more difficult, I'll welcome it. Otherwise I believe that is truly all that fits my criteria in the scale (according to MADb). I plan to expand into the 1990s USAir era eventually but that will be long term instead of my standard US Airways collection approach.

Ive raised my collection % by 19% this year alone which is insane. Very excited to keep going. Hopeful for more releases to make things one step harder.:)

More photos soon. Need that good 1pm light in the apartment...

I have a copy of the red Metrojet 737. I’ll sell for $100 😅

Ive gotten my sunlight and can take more photos. All of these are brand new in my collecting as of the last 2 weeks or so. I purchased these models back at the end of last year but got them delivered to my parents address for safer keeping until I could get them. Super happy to finally receive these as they're great for the collection.

First up is a Southwest 737-700 with the reg N708SW. This aircraft was delivered to southwest in December of 1998. It served its whole life with the airline until it was finally scrapped in 2019. This model was released by GeminiJets in July of 2015. This is the one model on the board that Ive basically since its release. I should have dusted it off for the photos but oh well haha. This is the only Southwest model I have in this livery right now. All the rest are in the old canyon blue or gold livery.

Heres N708SW being marshaled into the gate after its short flight:

N323JB is one of JetBlue's 37 E-190s in their fleet. These are currently being phased out and replaced by A220s and only 16 are still in active service with JetBlue. The rest are permanently parked or leased out. N323JB was delivered to JetBlue in September of 2010. With the nickname "Only Blue", it is still in service today, but who knows when it will be finally pulled to rest. This model was released by GeminiJets in October of 2024.

N338RS is a 737 Max 8 delivered to American Airlines in October of 2018. This guy has a long career ahead of him still...This model was relased by NG in September of 2024. One of my favorites in my collection for sure. This was my first time seeing the NG Max 8 mould in person and I am impressed! Cant wait to get more Max 8/9/10 products from them in the future.

Nose end detail. The worst aspect of any 1:400 model is the nose gear generally. They're just too wide when looking straight down the nose. Thankfully from side angles they still look great. Hopefully technology advancements in the next few years will make them look even better than they do now:

Next up is a CRJ-700 branded in American Eagle colors. N706SK belongs to Skywest Airlines and was delivered to them in 2004. This bird originally flew under United Express in the battleship grey and the post merger continental scheme. In 2016 this aircraft transferred over to AA and has been flying with them since. This model was released by GeminiJets in April of 2022.

N536NK was originally delivered to Volaris Airlines in August of 2010 as XA-VOQ. This aircraft was painted in a Chicago scheme of sorts for the airline. Below is a picture of the scheme. If anyone has more info on the scheme let me know :) After being stored in 2016 (unsure why), Spirit picked it up later in 2017 and flew it as N536NK. Spirit is phasing out the A319/320 fleet to be all newer Neo versions. This frame was stored just a few months ago in January of 2025. This model was released by NG in May of 2023.

This is an outstanding thread. I'm fascinated by the information you include about the aircraft, both the models and the real thing.

Thank you, I've found a lot of fun in this process of researching the different regs I have. A lot are owned and operated by the same airline for many years and are cut and dry but sometimes a spirit A319 isn't just a spirit A319. It had a whole life before dawning the banana colors which is fun on top of collecting the plane itself to me. Lots of planes made to scale all have wild and long lives that deserve a little attention brought to them imo :)

N706SK makes trips to YUM my home airport from PHX.

Skywest for AA is based primarily in PHX and DFW, it probably doesn't make its way up to the northeast much if at all. I believe all CRJ-700s in the northeast belong to PSA. Makes much sense its around a lot haha. Yuma has a funky lil airport as im looking at it now...Osprey spotting from the military side must be so much fun. Took me a while to find the commercial aviation area at first😅

Yuma also gets Skywest CR7 service from DFW. Both Skywest and Envoy send the E175 too!

A free day and good enough sunlight means more photos of the collection! :devilish:

Todays Overview - 4 NG Models from two different airlines:
IMG_1175.jpg
IMG_1174.jpg

First up is N37318, delivered to United in July of 2023. United has a whooping 116 of these in their fleet with 7 more on order. This model was released by NG in September of 2024.

IMG_1163.jpg
IMG_1181.jpg

Next up is N69818, an 11 year old 737-924ER, this was the 100th 739 delivered to United in March of 2014 and still in service today. This plane features the "one hundred" sticker on the left hand side of the plane (I forgot to photograph that aspect but it is a small one at that). The scimitars were installed on this plane in 2016 and it is now in the standard evoblue color scheme. This model was released by NG in August of 2024.

N375DA is a 26 year old 737-832. It was delivered to Delta in 1998 and is still active today. The scimitar winglets were installed on this plane in early 2023. This model was released by NG in December of 2023.

Some tail detail of the Delta livery:
IMG_1172.jpg

N371NB is an A319-114 delivered to Northwest Airlines in 2003. After the 2009 merger, its still flying for delta today. Delta will be retiring their oldest A319/20s soon so this frame might not be in the air for more than a couple more years. This model was released by NG in April of 2024.

Thats all for now! My big move happens over the next two weeks so pictures might get scarce for a short while, super excited to gte my new setup going though. Hopefully photos keep getting better and better as they have been. Enjoy :)
