Bake's 1:400 Collection

Crazy to me that IND, RDU and PIT all had CDG service with the 767-300 given the proximity to DTW and ATL. Delta also had domestic service with the 757-200 out of NRT before covid...

All historic routes kinda sound crazy after a while. Look at a lot of the things airlines were doing in the 2000s as well. Lots of routes that nowadays kinda make you scratch your head as to how they were either profitable, sustainable, and logistically made sense as to why they started. This route seems to be one of them. Condor, WOW and even BA make an ounce of sense from here but Delta exploring that from PIT just seemed a bit odd once I discovered it. Happy to have had them here for a good while though! I hope PIT gets another intl service soon, EI on their 321s or getting condor back or lufthansa/discover here would be nice. Time will tell!

Beautiful pics of your Heritage collection.
US Airways livery is the best in my opinion, but just a matter of taste (like United Airlines Tulip, for example). US Airways livery because for years i was delighted by A330-200 and A330-300 arriving at Rome FCO from Charlotte and Philadelphia, a pleasure for the eyes spotting at these beauties landing on runway 16R.

Absolutely! Just strange from the perspective of working in the industry seeing such strange routes only a few years back.

Thankfully I was able to ride one of those birds before they left the skies. I flew into Venice on N276AY (a -300 in AA colors at the time) and then took the same ride home a few days later from Rome. I enjoyed that airport a lot for as little time as I spent there. Lots to see around there coming from a normally American plane spotter!!

Well, Rome FCO is a kind of paradise for spotters that want to catch widebodies from USA:
- Delta Air Lines A350-900, B767-300WL, B767-400WL, B777-200ER, A330-900neo, A330-200, A330-300
- American Airlines B787-8, B787-9, B777-200ER, B777-300ER
- United Airlines B767-400, B767-300WL, B787-8, B787-9, B777-200ER, B777-300ER
Of course i am missing US Airways A330-200, A330-300 and B767-200, but i love Delta Air Lines (my favourite airline outside Europe) and, among the airliners, i love Delta and United B767-400...really impressive!

a little taste of everything🤩

Time to show off a new arrival. These photos were taken on my DSLR, first ever real attempt to grab photos with it. It is definitely the wrong lense which leads to odd focusing…i’ll have to pick up a macro lense of sorts to take more interesting and higher quality shots. Either way I’m happy with how these turned out.

This model is of Northern Pacific Airlines 757-200 with the reg N628NP. It was released by JC Wings in 2022 along with N627NP which wears the same exact colors. N628NP started its life in 1995 with USAir as N631AU. In 2006 the reg was changed to N200UU, still under the now US Airways. At this time it included the newly added winglets across the whole fleet. In 2015 it flew for a few years under American Airlines after the merger and was stored in 2020. Northern Pacific grabbed the frame in 2023 with the new reg of N628NP, and also fitted it with the newer pointy winglets. It now wears a slightly different livery irl as Northern Pacific Airlines changed their name to New Pacifc Airlines. The livery is the same but with updated titles along the front I believe. While not a part of my official Legacy US Airways criteria, It still kind of counts so i’m glad I was able to grab at least one of these planes as much as I hate the mould. The winglets are way too pointy and the front end doesn’t look quite right to me. Either way I enjoy having this model and i’m glad to get photos of it on my brand new board I finished.

Mocked up here is an unnamed green themed sports team loading up for a game the next day on a tight turnaround time.

Actually, just use a smaller aperture (higher f-number) and you'll get more parts focused. Not placing the camera too close can also work :D

I’ll have to try it! I only have the one lense for irl airport spotting (i forget what it is specifically, im still learning! lol) I am standing a good 5-6 feet away to take these photos as is right now so i’ll have to play with some settings for sure. Thanks for the tip!

USAir photos next for my retro enthusiasts! Enjoy!

Hello all,

Here’s the next set of photos for you all. These were fun to photograph with the new camera. I still want to get a specific lense for these photos as I have to be a good distance away for the focus to work BUT i’m figuring out how to work around it for the time being, and getting decent results in the end. Enjoy!

Some overviews of the group:

First up are the brand new Dash 8s by 3D Design Deck, both technically Dash 8-102s.
N974HA was delievered to Henson in 1989. In 1993 the shift to Piedmont occurred and it flew under Piedmont/US Airways Express until it was stored in 2017. N804EX was delivered to Pennsylvania Airlines in 1990. After flying under them, Allegheny and then Piedmont in 2004, US Airways retired the frame in 2017. It quickly moved to Canada, where Regional 1 Airlines flew it for a few years as C-GBUU and then also stored in 2019. Now Summit Air operates the frame as of 2021.

Both models released by 3D Deign Deck in May.

As shown here, the left dash 8 rests as boarding will begin very shortly, The pilots are finishing their walk around and doing final checks. On the right, boarding has begun on this dash 8 as passengers ride down the jetway and down a ramp to ground level for boarding:

Next is N648US, a 767-201ER originally delivered to the original Piedmont back in 1988 as N608P. After the merger with USAir in 1989, it was registered as N648US and flew with the Airline until retirement in 2014 as N248AY. It was finally scrapped in 2016.

This model was released by Aeroclassics in 2019.

Seen here at the gate just after deboarding and is getting new fuel. The lavatories are being cleaned out and new bags and cargo are beginning to roll in:

Wonderful work!!! The amount of GSE and the ground markings really add a LOT of realism to the scene

while the ground markings have definitely changed since the 90s, I’m happy to have the same terminal standing by them at minimum. Maybe one day I can do a 90s or even 2000s era “hub style” board! Thank you for the kind words :)

Another little overview I didn’t include yesterday:
IMG_5434.jpeg

Next up is this 737-4B7 registered as N785AU. It was delivered to USAir in 1991 and served with them all the way through the brief months with AA (technically) before being stored then scrapped in 2015.

IMG_5400.jpeg

This model was released by GeminiJets in November of 2004. They also released another 735 (N783AU) in the same scheme in the same month surprisingly. It’s another one i’ll have to pickup if I can find it. 785 which I own seems to be more common from what i’ve seen

Lots of bags and a restock on refreshments for the next flight:
IMG_5405.jpeg

Lastly is N603AU, a 757-225 delivered originally to Eastern Airlines in 1983 as N508EA. USAir acquired it in 1992 as N603AU and then reregistered as N919UW in 2006 now as US Airways. It was finally scrapped in 2012.

IMG_5401.jpeg

This model was released by NG in May of 2019. So far only two 757s have been made in this scheme the other by Aeroclassics in 2018. I’d love to get another someday!

IMG_5403.jpeg

That’s all for now. More to come soon!
