Zinc Rot, What is it?

A friend of mine just sent me these photos of his Korean Air Boeing 777-300ER that had some paint cracks on the belly; one area at the wings, another around the nose gear. This is the latest (Dec 2021/Jan 2022) release by Gemini Jets. The paint cracks look eerily similar to zinc rot, but I’ve heard no cases of it associated with this model. Possible rotter or just a one-off defect?

Yikes. Mine seems to be fine, so I reckon it may be a one-off.

Regardless of what it is, it doesn’t look good. It looks more like paint cracks that zinc rot to me, but still a very worrying sign. Considering how recent this release was, it would be very unusual if it has developed zinc rot already.

It is a fairly new release, but then again, the reg tells me it might've been produced some time ago. KE owns almost 30 77Ws and GJ happens to have made the only one that was returned to the lessor right when the release came out: HL7784.

Why would GJ only release the model in December 2020?

This is pretty certain craquelure (I think that's the English term)
Not related to zinc rot.

Thanks. Indeed, my BOAC VC-10 has that as well.
Welcome. It was a shame about that, the issue affected all the BOAC variants I believe. Other releases were ok I think, I have the Negus and East African VC-10 sets and they are all fine.

Many many models have such cracks. Aeroclassics KLM 747-400s are a good example unfortunately, making any mint pieces even more rare than they already are!

Except that someone posted a few weeks ago a Pan Am A310 of yours released in 2015 (GJPAA1306) with very clear Zinc Rot showing. So...
No, that is an Aeroclassics that zinc rotted, stop Berating us and comparing us to NG. They are worse then us!, You are all engaging in a smear campaign.

Yeah right it was. The only Aeroclassics release with aerials. You're fun but I don't think Gemini would appreciate you pretending to be them.
