Who will be granted to produce the Cathay 80th anniv. green-white stripes old livery models

Sure the "American Hero" won't be allowed, but will Johan Chan be allowed?

Speaking about Cathay licensing, which is the strictest than many others, has Johan ever been granted to produce the models? There are a bunch of his Cathay models in the market that makes people wonder if they are all unlicensed 🤔

There are also NG, YY, HX or some other no namers in the market that are obviously unlicensed. Since Johan is a big player in the market wonder how did he get away if he doesn't have licenses to produce all the existing Cathay models

Oh yes and there's Herpa (or Hogan), but it's pretty much 💀 in the 1/400 world meaning if Cathay wants to release some official models it'll most likely have to find someone else

NG will probably do it as they mostly don’t care about licensing. But, that’s more on the US side as they have no North American distribution, so nobody’s going to go after them in china. But releasing a Chinese model unlicensed as a Chinese company could go badly on the legal side.

NG has released Cathay models but there's no logo printed anywhere they might be afraid of getting caught. There was a rumor from the 90s in the early days of die cast models that Cathay would go after any one of illegally releasing or distributing models without licensing but don't quote me that's what I heard back in the days.

Also, Cathay is wholly owned by Swire literally it's a UK company so the marketing or legal department might be responsible of any wrong doing in the region.

Here's your info if you want to know more about their background:

Back to the question, since Johan Chan is a big player in the market and he's also based in HK just like Cathay how did he get away without licensing wouldn't Cathay legal department hold him accountable much easier than anyone else?

Orange box = unlicensed and they want to keep it ambiguous. Everyone but gj that has the the mould will all make it
There were some Johan Chan Cathay releases that came with standard non orange box with everything printed on the back. Take the 747-400F bare metal one as an example. Same goes with the 1:200.

Heck, not even — NG might put it up as a future release within 48-72 hours.
Then they have to get around to doing it without pulling it out of the releases. I’m not the biggest fan of the retro livery on the 350 so I’m not in the biggest rush to get it😅

I expect it to be made by Aviation400, NG models, Phoenix, JC wings, GeminiStar, Aeropolaris and maybe Panda Model. They all have access to an A350-900 mould and have already made Cathay Pacific models.

Photos of the retro Cathay Pacific A350 have allegedly emerged! I think it looks lovely for what it is although I am not exactly sure if these photos are real or not.

The curvy cheatline(?) fits the A350 well, but the whole thing looks a bit bland without any chrome. Still better than most modern liveries.

Bonus points to CX for actually respecting their heritage, instead of tearing it down as fast as possible for some lazy, minimalist slop (cough cough…).

Agree and agree. Perhaps a metallic grey/silver would have been nice - akin to what Condor's Retro had. And similiar grey/metallic engines - the release rendition didn't have the stripe on the engines - looks like an afterthought - and thus the shoddy execution (see through ghost green engines)
The green wingtips would have stood out nicely then along with the cheatline - also the white stripes are missing from the outside of the winglets

Hey I know this doesn’t relate to 3dd at all but these are the official Cathay models that have been produced. I have no clue which brand this is but these are photos of them posted on Facebook by executive traveller who was at Cathay’s 80th anniversary launch party.

You’re still allowed to be a collector too! Doesn’t always have to be about 3DD!
