Show off your favourite model

Old school days, Aeroclassics Gen 1 Standard Negus VC10 G-AVRM, with both the grey and silver engines. Long history to the production model, not too sure if it's still on 400SCH, but production issues back 1999 meant that many of models were recalled, still one of my favorites though!

Did it take many tries for Aeroclassics to get these out to the market? Would love to find that read over at 400SH, which by the way I was finally able to log on after about a week with all the glitches they were having.

Love that KLM! Something about Gemini classics!

Thanks! Indeed, many of my favorite models are older Gemini classics.

That one came broken (I knew it was broken) but was able to repair it. My most recent story over at my site is about it:

Those are nice ones. I'm liking that a lot. I'll have to do something similar when I get back home from vacation.
I finally got this together. It's hard for me to pick even 10 favorites, but after a lot of thought, this is what I came up with... in no particular order:
Hughes Airwest 727-2M7 N723RW by Aeroclassics. Back when I worked on the IND ramp from 1977-1979, Hughes Airwest 727s became pretty much weekly visitors on charters to and from LAS, especially in 1978 and 1979. They usually ran on Thursdays. If I had a true "Holy Grail".this would be it.

Federal Express 737-2S2F N204FE by Aeroclassics: This one is very special also. When I hired in at Federal Express in December 1979, N204FE was the very first Federal Express aircraft that I worked. My primary job was to unload the A and B bellies, which was bulk loaded. I also at times assisted "top side" with offloading the SAA containers that were on the main deck.
Federal Express B737-2S2AF N204FE L.jpg
Club USA (Overseas National Airways paint) DC-8-21 N1976P by Aeroclassics. I used to see this plane almost every single day when I worked on IND ramp. This DC-8 was owned by Club USA, a travel club, still in it's former owner ONA's bicentennial "Confederate" paint scheme. The only difference is that the "ONA" on the tail was painted over and replaced by a blue stripe with 2 stars, matching the others already on the tail. I had custom decals made with the blue stripe and stars to replicate this plane's appearance with Club USA.

Delta L-1011-1 N725DA by NG Models. Although the L-1011 never served IND with Delta, this one was the first L-1011 that I flew on, from ATL to MCO in June, 1979.
Delta L-1011-1 N725DA L.jpg
Pan Am L-1011-500 N510PA by NG Models. One L-1011-500 operator that did serve IND was Pan Am. In the early 80s, Pan Am flew a daily L-1011-500 IND-DTW-LHR and return.

TWA L-1011-100 N41012 by NG Models. The major L-1011 operator at IND in the 70's and 80's was TWA. At times, there were at least 3 L-1011 flights daily, going to LAX, SFO, STL, and even one flight with an odd LAX-DAY-IND-LAX routing. It was flight 22/189 went LAX-DAY as flight 22, and flight 189 from DAY-IND-LAX. It usually arrived at IND around 5:30 pm. TWA twin globe is one of my favorite paint schemes.

Southwest 737-8H4 N500WR Freedom One by NG Models. Getting to the more modern era, Southwest released this beautiful 737-800 in "Freedom One" paint on June 18, 2021. I was able to see it landing at IND only 4 days later, on my birthday.

United 737-824 N36272 "Star Wars Rise of Skywalker" by NG Models. I was very fortunate to see this beauty in person about 2 months before it was sadly repainted into United's standard Eco Blue paint scheme:

It was nice to read all the details on the connection to each aircraft. You are lucky in that many of your favorite models have been produced with some of the best molds there are.

Wow Purpleplane, awesome selection and love the backstory as well, very interesting to read your own personal connection to those models! Great stuff. I have to say the classic L-1011’s are my favourites, loving that USAir rust 721 too. Thanks for sharing! ✈️✈️👏👍

You're very welcome. Glad you enjoyed it. I completely forgot to cover that USAir 727-22QC in the post. Hopefully I can do that one and some more later on.

That would be great! Always enjoy reading the personal experience of others, it adds meaning. I love that ‘rust’ scheme, and have collected a few USAir models of that era myself, including this 727 👍

Those are some lovely models you have there, a great range of airlines and types. :)

Hi all, first post on here.
Just looked at my pic of one of my custom models and thought it fits in here quite well.
My all time favourite 1/400 is this custom made DC-9-21, not because it is especially accurate or detailed (that's what I usually like), but simply because quite some hours went into making this one - it's standing in the front row of my collections since 18 years already.
The Panda Tu-134 would be my favourite non-custom model. Spectacularly crisp mould and printing.

Hi Phantom, welcome to MAF! That custom SAS DC-9 looks pretty decent from here, for an 18-year old model, and as usual great photography. Love that TU-134 as well 👏👍

Welcome to the community! We are glad to have you here. They are both lovely models, that DC-9 looks very good for an 18 year old custom!

I’m putting these two KLM 747 classics up for Qantas992, both released by Euroclassics in 2007: B.747-206B 1970’s blue-tops PH-BUD (P&W) & PH-BUI (GE). Again definite favourites, can’t beat this scheme on a 747!

The only four engine plane that I have flown is the 707-320B series. Flown on a Pan Am 707 in 1973,from Travis Air Force Base-HNL-GUM-Kadena Air Force Base Okinawa. The return to the States was in 1975 on another Pan Am 707,Kadena Air Base-Iwakuni-Yokata Air Base-SFO-Norton Air Force Base (SBD); all this travel I was a Navy dependant.

Hello Phantom 👋

That DC-9-20 is incredible! Did you cut and solder a longer DC-9 to make it?

I’m putting these two KLM 747 classics up for Qantas992, both released by Euroclassics in 2007: B.747-206B 1970’s blue-tops PH-BUD (P&W) & PH-BUI (GE). Again definite favourites, can’t beat this scheme on a 747!

Absolutely lovely!

Thanks for sharing such art pieces Alex and Alex.
