Santa Bárbara ATR-42-300 Custom

V1 Decals did this custom design for a friend and me three years ago. It took me that long to find a 4-bladed prop donor. Cheap ATR-42-300s are not easy to come by, and I wouldn't want to use most of them as donors anyway. This Thai example by JC Wings was listed for $29.99 (plus shipping and whatnot) as an auction on the Waffle's eBay store. I was the only bidder, of course, as I would not have paid a cent more than the listing price.

The donor was quite nice though:

The chealine eneded up being a bit high, and the blue on the tail is obviously much too dark, I knew.

Several photos of the airplane in later years (reg. was changed) show it wearing what seems to be a darker blue on the tail. Or maybe it is the light.

 Maaan! I would have preferred any of those two as they fit the era better, But for collaborative reasons, I had to go with the 2000s livery. I still remember when Santa Barbara had only two ATRs in that blue livery with the large titles. Their operations base was a hangar at the Aeroclub Maracaibo. Amazing how big they got before disappearing. I also remember LAI 42s and 72s along Viasa in Maiquetía. Good times.
