Al's airliner photo thread.

Great to see some nice pictures from other spots on this planet!

While all my slides/color negatives from the ealier years seem to have gone lost somewhere, I just found a (bad) scan of one of my favourites. Taken in summer 1998 (I think) at Samos again, it shows the weekly Adria DC-9 on a very long and low take off. I didn't expect anything special that day so only had the small pocket cam with me...

I thought I had published one of these...

Un-manned Phantom at Ellington Field in Houston on August 13, 2013.

I very much like this for two reasons. For the type of course and for giving me a heads up about Jetphotos. Had almost forgotten about JP and my pictures there - I see I had uploaded to JP at least a few of those from the 2009/2010 timeframe that I thought I have lost. Nice to see they weren't completely lost.:D

Here's a manned Phantom "Terminator 2020" of 171. Korsan Filo

And one of my "lost ones" on the subject of airliners.😚

This time with Canon...

Atlas 744, felt like these were landing every 15 minutes or so.

Pepsi 772s were my childhood, so it's always nice to see one.

Ethiopian 788 from Addis Ababa. 787s, especially the -8, look tiny despite being widebodies.

KE 748. They might be leaving the fleet starting this year.

HL7733 was originally KE's Skyteam livery jet. It's nice to see it still chugging along, 14 years after I flew on it.

And lastly, an Asiana 359 with a fitting registration.

Some great pics of interesting birds!
About the Korean Air Jumbo... that's really odd. Are they retiring their B747-8 fleet?! You sure?

It's just an insider rumor rn, but 3 are allegedly leaving the fleet this year, to be followed by the rest soon after.

That's very strange... these are quite new! Is KE having too much widebody capacity?
They're pushing really hard for the merger, and that'll create excess widebody capacity. Not to mention quads don't align well with their recent strategy of cost cutting. The 748s will allegedly be replaced with A359s starting from later this year...

What a damn shame!

Very neat. The local spotting group here in Houston is big on panning, I never got into it, don't really go to the airport anymore during my days off 😩

I guess the closest I got was during a MIA ramp tour in 2015 as the setting sun forced me to lower the shutter speed below my comfort zone.
Same here. Rarely ever go out with the cam today and do some panning. And if, then mostly due to bad light.

Love the colors on that pic.

Yeah low light photography takes some getting used to, you need to lower the shutter speed and f-stop to nutty levels for crisp shots. This one required the shutter to be open for 2.5 seconds, and it just got crazier from there on. 🙃

I experimented with night photography (not handheld) a few years ago. It was a thrill having the shutter open for 30 seconds hoping the aircraft wouldn't move.

I caught a flight control check after pushback once. You can see the rudder movement. I suppose the screeners at JP thought it was cool.
