30+ Model Unboxing!

i also don’t see why you need to promote your videos here. I know you can do what you want but most people already watch them in the first place so it’s not like you’re gaining viewers, and these videos usually end up being criticized pretty heavily too. Just my thoughts.
There’s thousands of views of day on here, so I would think there’s people on here that I’ve never seen my videos…

I’ve discussed the criticism and my plans to restructure the presentation of material which will hopefully will induce positive feedback.

I just want to put my two cents in. As a fellow YouTuber, I can really get Connor’s struggle with trying to get good content out while staying punctual. Connor has both YouTube and a full time job, and I can imagine how hard it is to juggle those. I personally struggle with staying punctual with uploads (Haven’t uploaded in a while now) and I am very impressed Connor has kept the daily, sometimes twice daily uploads.

Also, the algorithm has been quite unkind to model aviation recently, and that could be the reason why people will do anything to try to get a few more loyal viewers. I’m guilty of that too.

Engagement “bait” like “comment below” is not a scummy thing to do, If you know YouTube and know the algorithm that is exactly what creators need to grow bigger audiences.

I think Connor makes some great content and I think people are really over-hating here. That’s my two cents on this.

Agreed on this. However, Connor does do prerecorded videos making daily posts able.

In all fairness there's nothing in the rules that says you can't - only thing would be to avoid excessive promotion I assume. I don't have a problem with it.

This is an interesting subject and I am also going to stick my two pence in on this.

I’m not sure I’d say the criticism on this thread is ‘over-hating’. If you are posting to social media, making content and expressing your opinions then you are opening yourself up to that feedback/criticism. I think Connor’s response is reasonable, take the feedback on the chin and make the change.

However, the videos + what is advertised/posted on this forum by Connor does to me, come across like it’s not for this community of people. There will of course be exceptions and people who want to see this content on here but when you have the detail oriented and critical eyes of the people on this forum, it’s inviting conflict. Especially the age old Gemini vs NG debate that keeps rearing its head.

Constantly using ‘Gemini jets’ in lots of video titles when it’s not related to Gemini jets just for in-sighting more clicks, appeals to the young Gemini fan club but it’s kind of annoying and doesn’t help your claim of no association/biased to gemini

The only point I'd add to this is all the talk of the algorithm and trying to game it from several people on here seems to rather miss the point. Why are you making the content in the first place?

If it is just to get as many views as possible then clickbaity titles, lying about the content and other cheap methods may get you somewhere, but I'd argue are unlikely to gain you the long-term numbers, stickability, kudos or the reputation you want.

If you want to be listened to, get a good reputation and enjoy yourself wouldn't it just be better to make as high a quality material as you can and try to build a loyal following organically? Perhaps I'm being naive about this?

I'm certainly no expert when it comes to YouTube I admit and I'm sure my production values aren't the greatest in terms of sounds etc. I've only been working on the YT channel for a few years but I notice that although Connor you have over 3 times as many subscribers as I do your videos typically get a lot less views. Not that my viewing figures are anything to sing about, but if a video gets near 1K views after a week or two I'm happy considering 400 scale is a small subsection of a small subsection of a small subsection of society.

I'm not doing anything to buy subscribers or views yet I've seen the channel grow organically quite well without having to dumb down my content with fake stuff. Perhaps just release less often but higher quality and less gimmicks?

Then again I could be wrong - after all YT does seem to be inreasingly full of AI drivel!

As mentioned, the thought is that with thousands of viewers a day, new people will find the content and be interested.

When you’re creating content on YouTube, using GeminiJets in titles is the difference of people finding the videos and not finding the videos. Catering to what people are actively looking for on YouTube is vital so the videos can reach the target audience. I think it’s fair to at least give my channel a chance to be successful with the work I put in.

I'm really not sure what you are saying is true here. I don't see any evidence of it myself. You can just tag the video with Gemini Jets. You don't need it in the title.

I don't think me adding Gemini Jets into the title of everyone of my videos would improve the number of views, in fact I suspect it would have the opposite effect. The YouTube algorithm isn't stupid.

I’m making the videos for the viewers and for the hobby itself. As mentioned before, the use of titles and keywords so the videos actually have a fair chance to be seen considering the amount of time and effort that goes into them.

YouTubers that upload 1-2x weekly get more views per video. Daily uploading does not result in more viewers per video but more overall. I have stories I want to tell, so that’s why I daily. If all I cared about was views, I would do 1-2x weekly probably.

Couple examples of two similar forms of content, every video is different but you can see the idea here.

1K vs 300 and 367 vs 196. Every video is different but you can compare some here.

I'm not sure that really tells much of a story. I can do that with my vids and the viewing numbers go up and down in a similar way but I never mention Gemini or NG like you do. In fact the Cute Models video I did the other week has over 3K views for some reason while the A330NEO review has less than 600. Perhaps it's just the content and the way it is represented? Maybe the title has nothing to do with it?

Who knows but my goal is to give people a chance to see it and the key term “GeminiJets” has worked well for me.

I think Connor is making valid points. As a smaller content creator, getting views is hard.
He has 4 times the number of subscribers I do but for model related content he gets 1 quarter of the views I do. We're both small content creators. I don't see the tricks he's using making any difference here - if anything I think it is harming his content.

That's the way I see it. Obviously you guys disagree

daily vs 1x weekly is a different story for the algorithm and I’ve also been doing YouTube since 2017 so by default I have some inactive subs.

This thread has brought up a lot of interesting points — considering my close ties with Connor, I’m absolutely willing to support him, but I also want to provide some constructive feedback when it’s appropriate.

I personally don’t mind the use of artificial intelligence when it comes to video summaries, but it needs to be proofread before publishing since AI is not perfect. My college professors said that I should treat AI as like your worst student reporter. While great as a compliment in some ways, the content needs to be manually checked and edited. There are also a lot of ethical questions, but that’s not within the scope of what I want to say. What I will say on an ethical level though, I have not used AI for any of my videos in any way as a result. My goal is to come up with a channel-wide AI policy in the near future before I start using it often, so that it’s clear when it is used and what its purpose is.

On the topic of keywords, there’s fair points brought up on both sides. From Connor’s end, I agree with getting more people to discover your videos, but I also agree that you don’t want to mislead the audience. Since Gemini Jets is a major brand within the hobby, it’s gonna be easy to get a few extra clicks when you put that keyword in the title. I avoid using it when other brands are involved as my model airports incorporate several brands in every video, like the models, GSE, jetbridges, etc. Tags is a fair compromise and I have a list of tags I put in every video that Connor gave me a long time ago. I haven’t noticed much of a difference overall, but there are times when it does work really well.

In short, the big feedback I have is with the AI summaries — they need to be manually checked so that inaccurate data is filtered out. Keywords are fine when used correctly, and tags are a good alternative. At the end of the day though, I could give two hoots about how many views or clicks I get on my videos since I’m here for fun. If a video does well, great! If not, I won’t lose sleep over it.

I may do some experimenting with how bad videos on YouTube have been performing lately, but tough to know if this will be the new normal or not. I will be revamping my content on here and hopefully you all will enjoy it more.
