I can understand your points, but my question is does NG have access to any western media besides their Instagram? They don’t have a Facebook anymore, their Twitter is probably dead in the water, and they have no official YouTube channel of their own. Do they happen to use a VPN (which I believe is illegal in the country) to access news outlets from western countries to see what’s going on? Because if they don’t have that information, then there’s no way for them to know what’s happening next.

If I go to the China Daily website (the biggest English language news channel out of China) and I do a search for tariff trump I get 3,349 stories returned:



They and their citizens are paying close attention.

I know news coverage in the US is staggeringly domestic focused but news reporting in other major economies tends to have a much greater international outlook.

Some people do and that’s just how it is. I see a lot of news on social media myself, however I only trust it when it’s coming from a credible source. What I was getting at in my previous post was if they don’t have western social media, do they have access to western news outlets? Doesn’t matter how reputable they are, it’s more a general question of can they access it?

I see their news outlets in China has the tariff situation well-covered, though I am curious to see how they report on it and if it differs from how western news reports on it in both US and foreign media. That goes beyond the scope of this discussion but more my general curiosity.

Well its all censored obviously so if it is posted on a Chinese mainstream site it'll be the government line, but then again news in the US is often so biased to a European it sometimes doesn't seem like news at all!

Everyone in china has either one way or some way to vpn out to access western media.

China is not north korea. they have news that shows whats going on around the world

To be honest if you think that is what china is like i find it really concerning.

Does the CCP restrict access to information? Of course they do but judging their ability to conduct international commerce based off their social media presence wouldn't be a fair assessment of this situation. China isn't North Korea after all and has westernized and modernized a lot of their industry and economy to be intertwined with the western market and are almost completely co-dependent on one another. I'm not Chinese so I couldn't tell you all the ways business gets access to information, but they certainly are not shut out to the rest of the world like the Soviet Union.

Why would it need to access Western media?
Or do you think that Asian and Chinese media wouldn't also report on tariffs? After all it does affect them.

It's China not the 1800s, their news outlets would report tariffs that affect their country.
It would also be possible to access news on the internet.

Being misinformed because all you consume is western media or news, is having a western bias.
If I was asked about a subject I was not informed in, I would just say that instead of pulling something out of my ass.
