Models of aircraft you've spotted or flown

Figured it would be quite interesting to see what model everyone has of an aircraft that you have personally spotted or flown. To me it is one of my main collecting criteria and influences my decision to buy a model over another by quite a bit. There's just something about having seen the aircraft in reality that makes owning a model of it all the more cooler - I'd like to hear your thoughts on this!

Here are some of mine along with my picture of the aircraft:

Interesting subject. This fits my citeria of collecting. I have lost count on ”seen or flown on” models in my collection. I might post some of them after the weekend. Leaving home tomorrow and back Sunday evening.

My biggest coup was when I managed to fly with the RAF Red Arrows aerobatic team in May 1988. At the time I was also doing research for Corgi's Aviation Archive series and made sure when they made their Red Arrows 1/72 Hawk model, it had the serial of the one I flew in - XX294.red arrows hawk.jpg

Yeah, one day I would love to see NG make a Qantas A330-200 VH-EBD 2007 livery, as I have been inside the cockpit of VH-EBD when I was younger

I flew on N117UW which I’m looking for. I have spotted, to my knowledge, Arizona One (spotted 2020, acquired in 2022) and N725UW (acquired 2016, spotted 2018).

This is way too impressive Sir Adrian. Not only you got to fly with the Red Arrows, but also got a manufacturer to produce a model after that event. It doesn’t get much better than that. Let’s see, in May 1988 I was 7 months old. An entire lifetime and you haven’t lost the passion for the hobby. I also want to still be collecting models 30+ years from now 🙂

Interestingly, when I got into 1:400 I did not feel any attraction to models of aircraft that I could go and see at the airport, or fly on. Models were a way to connect with the past. However, that has changed with time, and today I can point a few models in my collection that I have spotted. I recently wrote one of my stories on this very subject, you can check it out here.

Most of my collection is based of planes I've seen, spotted, flown on, or flown myself. A few members of the collection:

Flown on
KLM DC-10-30 PH-DTA 1:200
KLM MD-11 PH-KCE 1:200/1:400
ALM MD-82 PJ-SEH 1:200
ALM MD-82 PJ-SEF 1:200
Grupo Taca A320 1:200 (flew on several)
Grupo Taca 737-200 1:200 (flew on several)
Aeropostal DC-9-30 YV-24C 1:200
Aeropostal DC-9-51 YV-32C 1:200
Aserca DC-9-30 1:200
SAM RJ100 1:144/1:400
Dutch Caribbean Airlines DC-9-30 PJ-SNL 1:400
American 727/737-800//757-200/A300 1:200/1:400

And I have a wishlist of others I have flown on that I have to get or make as customs.

Spotted, quite a few but I'd have to go through pictures to check.

Flown myself,

Copa 737-700
Copa 737-800

Both in 1/400 and 1/200. Oddly enough I don't have any models of anything I flew before that. But they're on the to-do-list.
