What kind of lighting does everyone use for their pictures? All I'm using is a basic overhead light and well, it just sucks. Would a ring light be better?

I have installed a roof window to get real sunlight or shaded sunlight using a white curtain.
Direct sunlight can be too strong in summer so I often use the curtain. Two examples:

Sunlight, be sure to not leave the models in it though as they will fade.

I try to use natural light.

A mix of both Natural (where available), and ring light.

I use LED lights from my display cabinet in my "photo booth". I really need to get a good backdrop to put in there.

I'll write up a tutorial on how I do my pics when I get five minutes, but I only use daylight. It's how you generally see planes in real life.

I use natural light for taking photos of dioramas, and a ring light for individual photos of a model. This however is when I am near my camera, and if I am not, I just use natural light with my phone, it usually turns out fairly good.
