Boeing announces that delivery of first B777X will be postponed to 2027.
Lufthansa is the lauch customer and for this delay the replacement of 16 A340-300s and 8 B747-400s will not take place before 2027. During 2026 only the 6 remaining A340-600s will be phased out.
Even Lufthansa controlled ITA Airways has some problems with airplanes replacement: CEO Eberhart said that the (very old) A330-200 fleet will be phased out in 2026 because of the delay in delivery of the 5-6 A330-900neo, still grounded without engines.

I'm accepting the fact that this plane will never see light...

I don't know. Boeing accepted the sad fact that they haven't a competitor in the segment 220-250 seats (A321neo/LR/XLR), they can't accept not to have a good replacement of the B777-300ER and a competitor of the A350-900/A330-900neo. Even if the B787-9/10 already compete in the up to 350 seats while the B777X Is a new step, entering in the 390/400 (B777-8) and 430 (B777-9) market, where just the A350-1000 already exists.

curious how the real thing turns out.
Not entirely convinced by this image of the translation of that scheme onto the 773s proportions

IMO, retrojets look much better in 1960/1970/1980 liveries rather than 1940/1950s.
Most of the older piston aircraft liveries were based in polished fuselages and didn't have much details so most of the liveries look kinda out of place in modern jets

Posted this is the other thread and just copying here:

The AA press release indicates the base paint will be the airline’s “Silver Eagle paint color” so definitely won’t be polished, sadly.

That said, I like the attempt here and think it’s a welcomed breath of fresh (100 yr old?) air compared to other liveries. I’ll take this any day over Delta’s - just my 2 cents

From that rendering shared - it's pretty underwhelming - the excitement of an AA retro is undercut by the fact that it looks to be a very watered down and poorly envisioned and designed homage

Aside from likely missing the base color, which I agree is disappointing, how is the proposed livery “watered down” and “poorly envisioned”?

Looks like they hit all of the design elements to me including the orange control surfaces which should look very striking on the wings.

Let’s also remember that all they have released thus far is a rendering so I don’t think it’s quite fair to be extremely critical at this point.
