The new Korean

Yes, last night I happened to see the first few photos on Instagram that spotters took of HL-8515 - the first aircraft in the new scheme. And of course there was a lot of disappointment - besides the KLM or Neos likenesses.

I don't dislike it, and arguably, the scheme works better if there are winglets - just adding that little bit but much needed extra colour - which is why, for example, JAL A350s (imo) look lovely - but their 787s look really bland.

I'm perhaps more disappointed at the overall loss of colourful imagination in updated legacy schemes - Lufthansa and Iberia for example - but then again, I don't dislike those new schemes - they're just too...... reductive.

And I'm still not sure about the billboard titles - it's becoming a great excuse for not having inventive livery designs - like over at Icelandair, and Air India. Again, I don't dislike those, they're just not...... legacy enough.

Every existing and to-be-released KAL model in the current livery just quintupled in value 🤣🤣

Lazy, soulless, zero national identity. What a way to ruin a distinctive and timeless CI. As someone who grew up around the baby blue Pepsis and thought they were the coolest planes in the sky, it’s sad.

I totally get this. And I am with you.
Korean Air's current scheme is like ANAs - timeless!
The smaller titles modification worked so well on the A359. All they needed was a little tweaking, if at all, that is.
Gladly at least a few got the old(?) colours

Everyone here’s hoping it’s a fake livery that’s been wrapped on top of the real one, Air Canada pulled a similar trick before. Unlikely, but not impossible, given the wrinkly surface and odd tail logo proportion.

And yes, I’m coping hard 🙃

Looks like it got downgraded rather than upgraded 🤦‍♂️
I bet NG will release this livery before any real KE wide body in the previous, much better livery...
As surprised as I am to say this, I’ve good reason to believe this won’t be the case. We’ll probably know for sure sometime this week.

In case you’re missing, or missed the news this weekend. We have a pretty official livery reveal for Korean Air.
The worst new livery design! Why would they remove their iconic "Pepsi logo" (which actually South Korean flag in case some people dont know) and their iconic blue into this sad design. KAL identy was in their current livery, and now its gone! Anyone who got this idea should be fired 😡

It looks so awful… minimalism is a such a blight on humanity. First TAAG, now KAL. Bring back bold and unique livery designs.
Right. TAAG too.
it does though still retain a sense of the legacy colours - with the orange to vermillion tail art - . But yes. Damn Eurowhite.
Although I must say, I like the anti-glare detail still - gives enough of that retro touch.

I hope this is the case. They might try to “tease” the public and want to see how bad the reaction could be when the real one is introduced. By now it is hopeless to get the red back but maybe the “Air” in the title could make a return.

everything from airline brands to mcdonald’s/other fast food buildings…everything has lost its colorful wonder and uniqueness due to minimalism. very sad looking back at life in the early 2000s compared to now :( we need a return to form at some point.
