I think Phoenix are back on form with their March announcements. Their moulds often aren't the best, but their range is excellent, plus there are big things coming next month. Here are my rankings.

Upon close they don't have the metallic effect that much actually

They have. Looks like a "standard" mica finish on the real thing. The scattered reflections give it away.

This shows it quite well. Radome here is a solid grey, the rest is mica (or a simmilar effect pigmentation)

Thanks @Phantom - yeah my immediate reaction on seeing the finished photos was 'huh?!!'
I'll skip this one thus - unfortunate - I have 3 in the latter scheme (1xGJ + 2xPHX) and none in this one.
I guess the next time whenever that turns out to be

I think the overall shade of grey looks ok, however it needs the mica/metallic element. Under the sunlight, the metallic paint is very obvious. The shade JC Wings used on the recent Virgin 747 release is too light for the older livery in my opinion.

Yeah this error is sadly too much to let go of as it fundamentally alters the livery perception altogether.

Am I wrong in saying that it seems Phoenix frequently goes overboard with the gloss clear coat on a lot of their models?

Their models do sometimes appear glossier than others I’ve noticed, mainly the Virgin Atlantic stuff. I do find the grey colour on Phoenix’s current Virgin livery models to be a little too shiny.

I do believe they are, but I only own a handful of Pheonix, so I just want to make sure I'm not crazy.

No you're not. They are super glossy - annoyingly so at times.
