NG Model 1:400 June 2025 Release Hints

Looks like we have an updated APU exhaust section for the 777 from NG.

Still, oversized for my liking. Especially the bottom apendage. Seems like NG have simply copied JC Wings' 777 APU. At 400 scale those apendages should be much smaller. I would have been happier if NG had simply squared it off. Anyway here we are again - close, but still no cigar.

Yes, I agree both the JC/NG molds are a bit overdone... The shape of the fuselage is mostly square like you mention and the appendages are merely unnoticeable at this scale.

Yeah it’s barely visible on the real thing, NG’s old version was better.

The APU on the 777 is as distinctive as her head. So far none of the brands have got it right. Really quite surprising when you consider the attention to detail a brand like NG prioritizes.

The Phx 777's APU is short stubby and rounded. JC recognized the flaw, but exagerated the corrections. NG's was sharp but slightly rounded. Now they've borrowed from JC, and made it worse.

A shame, I hope they fix this issue. They seem to be interested in addressing areas of concern and making changes. A good thing.

This one however...looks so weird on the 777, when the tail is sharp and those pointy things are tiny, albeit visible.

I don’t know NG seems to be slipping with the tiny details as of late and since this is a brand new adjustment I wouldn’t count on it changing anytime soon.

I see a lot of criticisms about the new APU. Yeah maybe it’s a little exaggerated but this is honestly better than a rounded inaccurate APU. And if you don’t like the new one, just cut 1/2mm of the bottom with some scissors and you will be good.

Also, regarding the cockpit region, I still don’t understand how it could be worse than the previous version. We finally have an almost perfectly rounded cockpit area shape which matches the nose shape and give an accurate result. Now NG just have to make sure they don’t mess up the cockpit windows printing for each release. The issue in these recent releases is the printing, not the mould: that’s why CPA 777s look better than these Asiana 772.

The older NG 777 was really bad (I owned the UAL and AFL 77W and I regret not having chosen the AV400 and Phoenix version, because of the old NG cockpit section and nose). I have their AFR 77W and I really hope NG makes another one with the new mould or maybe another brand, since this is an important aircraft for me. And I hope NG won’t have to use the old mould again

Agreed. Having gotten one of the CX 777s, once you get it in hand the flattened “platapus” look is much less pronounced and the shape overall is fairly accurate. The mould itself is nearly perfect imo and the apu section is honestly a welcome touch. I still like the PHX windows the most but their mould leaves too much to be desired. AV400 windows are way too skinny and I’ve had to replace my only copy of it recently with the new JC Swiss.

Just noticing, how good is NG's new stand? Does it do any damage to the models?

The 777 nose / cockpit region especially. It was perfectly fine.
Now it's screwed up.
They are consequent at least. The tail now is as hideous as the front.
I really don't like the trend of models going for gimmicks over accuracy. I mean, these things are nothing but tiny sockets for rear facing lights, nothing I'd want to see modeled the size of a man in 400 scale. NG once had good 777s.

No it doesn't but I'm not 100% sold on it.

In relation to NG 777s they haven't all been great. While the Air China I reviewed was really good some of the Air Chinas and Cathay's from that month had some serious nose issues - presumably due to polishing. I wasn't impressed Hopefully this isn't an ongoing issue!

This post is dedicated to everyone that says I don't criticise NG by the way ;) ;)
