MADb Issues and Feedback

I recently announced a Premium service on MADb that unlocks lots of extra features. One of those features is to see a cost/value analysis of your collection. Is that what you are referring to?

can you break down what goes into the cost/value analysis? what’s the forumla to determine what a specific model is worth? just msrp or current average ebay auctions?

It uses a proprietary algorithm that evaluates a number of factors. Obviously, since it is just an estimate, no guarantee can be made that a particular model can be bought or sold for the amount listed.

How do we add models that aren't in the database? For example, I have an Inflight200 Continental 757-300 that is not listed as a release option.

can you go into what some of those factors are?

for example, my ~100 plane collection says it’s worth only 100$ more than i’ve paid for it but I also have a good 20 models from ‘pre-a year ago’ and don’t have any cost for them added as I just don’t know. I figure those models are just simple tossed out from the equation? Would just be nice to get more clarity as it seems interesting and could be developed even further for future use!

Some factors includes the price that others have paid and when that was. Currency conversions and average inflation are also considered.

Essentially, yes. Without a known cost, obviously there is no way to compare. But there is a button toggle that allows you to extrapolate your known costs to all your models (using simple proportion). But in your case, since all of your models that are missing costs are from 10+ years ago, that may not be the best way to estimate those costs. I agree, the formulas could be further developed and improved upon. All ideas welcome.

So then if a model was msrp 25usd back in 2005, that’s adjusted into that number then? How many sources do you pull from when factoring in what other people have paid? Thanks again for sharing the info you can :)

Perhaps if there was a way to click an option for “average msrp upon release” that could help generally. It would need a lot of user input, especially from older folks whom got models back in 2000 for that data but if you get enough it might be valuable. I know all of those models I don’t have any info for purchase details I definitely bought them for the average msrp at the time so having that would be great to fill in.

The primary source right now is other user's reported costs. But we do use some additional sources for newer models.

Although this is ideal, it is practically impossible. That type of information is not readily available.

The best we can hope for is as much user-reporting as possible.

I will add that for any models that we have no price data for, we look at similar models and use a system of weights to determine a value (like real estate comps).
