MADb Issues and Feedback

I just tried to log in from my iPhone and it works now….strange?
I don't know what fixed it, but I'm glad it's no longer an issue.

the brand is called "PLATZ"
Given that they are from a long time ago, only made 3 models, and they don't even have the decals pre-printed on the model, I think we'll leave this brand out for now. You can always add it as a custom from your My Collection page. When selecting the brand, just type it out in the search box then click SET AS IS.

Okay all - the long awaited messaging system is now available. I urge you to keep your expectations low. It is minimal and does the job of allowing simple communication between MADb users. Things to note:

- No one can initiate a conversation with you unless your collection is marked public. However, if you're not public, you can always initiate a conversation with anyone that is public.
- If you have unread messages, a red indicator will show up on the messages icon (top right).
- There is currently no way to receive email/text notifications if you receive new messages. (These cost money, of course, and we doing this project on a minimal budget to keep it free for everyone.)
- However, if you are browsing the site, the red indicator will show up in real-time if you receive a message.
- And if you have the message pop-up open, you will receive messages in real-time. So it's more of a chat then mail-type.
- If you want to easily link to a model within the chat, just use the model number with a # in front of it (no space) and it will be automatically linked. Example: #12345
- I highly encourage users to use the messaging system for brief conversation regarding their collections and potential trades, and then move to a more reputable messaging platform for more in depth conversation. This will ensure we can keep this service running for free.

More features and improvements will be made over time. As always, if you find any bugs, please report them here, send me a message, use the feedback on the website, or email me directly if you already have the email. (I don't want to post it here to prevent spam bots)

Could i add kits as a custom model? (example: Revell 1:72 scale P-51B model kit, use the set as is button to set the brand to revell etc)

I tried to upload pictures from mobile. After selecting pictures I wanted to change the order, but this doesn't work so well; one picture dissapeared and after I couldn't move the others.

Just noticed other scales has been added, like 1:600 with over 2k models. Where do you get these info from? I am asking because I was running a 1:600 database long time ago.

That scale has been listed since the beginning of the site, and no new models have been added there recently. The data for the site has been sourced from multiple sources.

Noted. I'll take a look to see what can be done to improve that interface on mobile.

Add model dimensions maybe? Like dividing the aircraft's real-world length, height, and wingspan with whatever scale the corresponding model's in. Might be a bit of a pain to implement, though.

I've found some time to work on photo addition.

I have Aeroclassics production images running for the last 4 years and I'll be adding those in gradually. So far only 2024-2022 has been added.

I've also begun to go through and add photos from my Aeroclassics collection, which as I own nearly 1/3 of the production is going to take a while. I've been going by type and have so far added the following:

- SE-210 Caravelle
- Il-76
- B-377 Stratocruiser
- Il-18
- C-46 Commando
- Vanguard
- VC10
- Viscount
- HP Herald
- Trident
- TU154
- F28
- F27
- FH227

Here's a link to those records. As you can see for the 491 records that encapsulates there are still plenty of blanks but there must be 50-60% completion now.

Guys the Hobby master list is at best 30% so many models are missing. Is there any chance this will be sorted in the near term?

As @1400_Aircraft_Models pointed out, the site is mostly based on user collaboration now. If you have a useful source of data that can be easily parsed, please feel free to let us know. https://hobbymasterarchive.org/ is a great website for HM models, but it's all images so each model needs to be added manually. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to go through every single one. If anyone wants to add a few at a time, go for it.

Looks like 3D Design Deck needs to be added as a brand.
Added

Add model dimensions maybe?
I've seen this on some other sites before. Since you brought it up, I gotta ask the question: what is this information useful for? I'm genuinely curious.

Hello, I'm hoping to get some clarification on applying some tags to MADb entries:

I notice that the tag "Fake Registration" and "Fictional" have significant overlap; if not outright identical in intended use. Can anyone (esp the database admins/mods if convenient) help me understand the intended difference?

Would all Fictional entries by default have (maybe?) Fake Registrations, but not vice-versa?

Here's the search including all Fictional and Fake Registration entries.

To me, a Fake Registration aircraft would be an actual aircraft current/past/future in service with an airline using a registration that would be consistent but doesn't exist irl; for example at the moment the future Air Force One model by Gemini Jets would qualify, since it is an "actual" aircraft but GJ just assigned the tail code of 30000 to the model (as far as I know there's no indication of what this will be, please correct me if we do know the next Air Force One is going to be 30000). Would "Fake Registration" be appropriate as a tag here?

Fictional aircraft would encompass fantasy models, which would include something like the latest NG Malaysia Airlines 777-300 model. It's a type that was once ordered by MAS but cancelled hence it's never existed; hence appropriately deserving the Fictional tag. I am hesitant to categorise it as "Fake Registration" due to 9M-MSA being an actual registration used on a 737 MAX, however I noticed some Fictional models using real former registrations (such as the NG Fantasy BOAC 747-8F) not having the tag while others do.

Evidently this raises a potential issue where the appropriate tags could change over time; if hypothetically Emirates cancels its A350 orders suddenly the NG A6-EXA becomes a fictional model, but I think that's fine as long as we as a community are active in maintaining this database, which is very much in the spirit of this new platform.

I know this is kinda pedantic and possibly overly-meticulous, but I do really enjoy the user-friendly nature of the database and I think some clarity on this would be beneficial. Consistency regarding this would be helpful in sorting and finding models collectors could wish to acquire :)

Was just thinking maybe pairing up peoples wish list models with people who are selling or trading the same model? Would be easier than searching through individual collections
Great idea! I will get to that when I can. Next couple of weeks will be pretty busy for me, but it shouldn't take too long once I get started on it.

Hello, I'm hoping to get some clarification on applying some tags to MADb entries:
You're right, there is some overlap and possible mis-categorization. But I think you gave good examples of what those tags were designed for.
There are brief descriptions on the database info page: https://www.modelaircraftdatabase.com/about/database (Section XII)
I can add some more clarification on that page.

Would all Fictional entries by default have (maybe?) Fake Registrations, but not vice-versa?
Can't think of any example where that statement isn't true. So... yes?

And pedantic is fine with me 😁 The goal is data integrity!
Indeed, some data may need to be changed over time if someone notices inaccuracies. But as you said, community is the spirit of the platform.

Is everything ok with MADb? Noticed it's missing the recent Phoenix & JC wings releases? or am i doing something wrong!?
All okay. Just been busy. The following have been added...

November: JC 400
December: AV400

If anyone has lists of recent 200 scale releases or any of the Phoenix ones, please point me in the right direction.
Also, everyone is welcome to add these models themselves.
