Welcome to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport!

Another one of my mini dioramas centered around a small section of the A Gates at terminal 4. Terminal 4 at Phoenix was home to America West, their major hub from 1990 until the merger with US Airways in 2005. This was a fun project to create and i'm still figuring out techniques as I go along so bear with some "imperfections" as I learn :) I plan to add some kind of simple border, either thin veneered wood or just a black veneer or sorts to take your eyes away from the edges. A terminal will be in the works shortly. I have a backlog of terminal projects to get to but this one shoudn't take too long once it is in progress.

What Aircraft Parked Here?

This diorama measures about 1ft squared and has 8 total gates. A7, A9, A11, and A14 can accommodate up to an A321. A13 can hold up to a 757-200, as well as I guess what would be considered A10A (in between A10 and A8. A8, A10, and A12 can hold up to an A320. Lots of options for displaying here as I can show pretty much all aircraft except regionals and widebodies here on this board. A319/20/21, 737-3/4, and 757s all used these gates during this time period. Mesa's CRJs all parked in another finger pier and same as the widebodies at the time.

Markings

The markings resemble US Airways markings done around 2011 and lasting until American took over in 2017 and repainted into their updated markings. Some still arent as perfect as Id love them to be but I had to move onto other projects eventually. One day I may come back to do another area, maybe the southwest area of Terminal 4, or the new Terminal 3, where Delta, Frontier, and JetBlue to name a few all reside.

Here is a brief overview of the board:

A google Earth view of what I was trying to capture:

I wish I could capture the old America West markings that are still visible underneath the fresh paint of US Airways markings but I didn't want to make the ground too busy and wasn't super sure the best way to capture it well. Let me know if you have anay suggestions as this is common at a lot of US Airports over the years.

Full overview of the north side of Terminal 4:

All gates here belonged to US Airways and formerly America West. International flights arrived at that far left pier, including some other carriers like British Airways.

I didn't get everything fully set up but wanted to show a few pics with models for a good sense of scale. Hopefully I can take some nice proper photos to post here soon.
