KPHL - 1:400

I may, I just got my LAX terminal from him so I may be going back. I do prefer the clipper models jetways over everyone else’s still, but TD’s new three tier jetways excite me. I hope to have someone make custom length jetways for every gate as there’s some odd sized ones at PHL for how tight it is. It’s a touch task as it’s like 20 unique length jetways. 2 of them don’t even extend in real life as they just pivoted side to side to meet the aircraft (they were replaced in 2015ish timeframe. I hope to have all that replicated eventually.
You've got LAX also? How about some IND-LAX flight setups? Late 70s/early 80s, TWA flights 22/189 with an L-1011??? It was a weird tag-on that operated LAX-DAY as flight 22, DAY-IND with dual flight numbers 22 and 189, and IND back to LAX as 189. @Purpleplane

It’s a single gate of the modern Tom Bradly West gate 209, so 2020 and on unfortunately.

I hope to sometime make a retro LAX maybe of T1 USAir/Southwest back in the day.

No new progress today but I HAD to set it up to see it. Enjoy a few preliminary photos before it’s fully done. Enjoy!

I am realizing I should 100% get a background for this. I would love to have an angle of the main head house between B/C and maybe show a few of the other tails down the pier. Might be hard to achieve but maybe I can find someone to edit together a few photos and use some AI to get that done someday. If anyone has any recommendations on custom backgrounds let me know!
Is that wood your layout is on?

Yep! 3/4 inch plywood. I work for a Kitchen remodeling company so scrap plywood is EVERYWHERE (and free!) for me which is a huge plus.

"Sandeply" plywood, particle board, or any already pretty smooth board is what you'd look for. You dont want to grab anything thats got a thicker grain and has lumps and bumps like OSB as you'll just hate the finished product, or spend too long getting it smooth. MDF is fantastic but gets heavy quick. Any moisture that gets on MDF makes it bubble like a bad sunburn as well, so depending on primer/paint you use, you might need to be aggressive on sanding between coats get to your desired smoothness. I always use a black primer on all sides (including the bottom) to lock it in incase of anything spilling nearby. Nothing impossible to work with though and I truly recommend it overall.

If using wood, I recommend at least 1/2 inch thickness so warping doesn't become an issue. My PHL board, even being 3/4" thick still has a gentle bow in it that once finally hung on the wall I hope to correct and level out. Thankfully its not too bad overall, maybe only 1/16" to 1/32" out of level.
