1:400 scale Brisbane Airport

Hello!

I'd like to share a few photos of a project I have been working on for the last few months.
It is a 1:400 scale airport based in Brisbane, Australia. The time period that I will be representing with be the last 25 years with emphasis on airlines and aircraft that operated to Brisbane in the last 10 or so years as that is what makes up the majority of my collection.

The airport sits on a board of approximately 2 x 3 metres and consists of both International and domestic terminals as well as a section of runway 01, 2 hangars and a cargo area. The layout is not accurate to the real Brisbane airport as that would be massive to include what I am representing here so the terminals and apron areas are completely fictional. Runway 01 is the correct direction of Brisbane's airport and whilst the real airport now has a parallel runway, for much of the time period I am representing It did not. The new runway only opened in 2020. I have tried my best to represent everything as correctly to scale as I can, although I have made a few concessions with distance between aircraft parking to squeeze more gates onto the diorama. Runway 01 is the correct width and the runway markings are as correctly scaled as I could make them (thanks google earth measure tool).

A lot more work needs to be done until It is fully completed especially in ground markings and concrete expansion joints and I will continue to add photos to this forum as It develops.

I also have a lot of photos I took previously during the construction up until now. I took them on my phone so they wont be as nice as these photos which were taken with my camera but I'd be happy to share them as well if there is interest.

Enjoy!

Your diorama looks really neat! I like the terminal, very detailed. Do you plan to use some kind of acrylic for the windows?
Do you have pics of the full layout aswell?

What an amazing looking airport!!
I am currently working on constructing my model airport, so I will definitely take some inspiration and ideas from your beautiful airport!!

Nice work,
Take care!!:)

I have started adding acrylic to the windows, you can see them in the first image of the domestic terminal which is smaller than the international. Ive attached a photo of the full layout below! The runway is missing a few marking still, notably the touchdown zone. I just haven't gotten around to scaling them and drawing them out. The unpainted balsa wood sections indicate where the terminals footprint will be once I've built them up.

cheers!

This is super cool! very well done! Do you have plans to add any weathering to your ramp areas? Maybe some service roads even?
Eventually yes, currently still finishing up with taxiway markings and terminal construction. Further plans include adding taxiway signs, expansion joints and weathering when I get the time. Because of the shade of colour I chose for the concrete, white markings are difficult to see so service roads wont show up very well in photos. I do plan to add them even if they will be difficult to see from a distance!
