Highlights of 2022

Yes that's right - it was with the Cathay Pacific. I remember the thread you mention over on the 'other forum' ;) I posted some references with comparisons of the various differences and where the errors were. I also had direct contact with them about it and they were very receptive. The artwork for the Saudia L-1011 however looked 100%, no problems with that one from what we could see. Your post is absolutely fine mate - nothing rude about it at all! (y)

Yes! I would love to see the first CX Tristar in delivery colours as well as a later one. Hopefully, we also see the later Dragonair livery and a rerelease of the original Dragonair colours with a polished belly. 🤞

Hoping we'll see a Balkan IL-18 soon....and some more niche releases from Buchannan on the NG 757 and L-1011 moulds :)

Hope so! They need to make the most of that mould 👏 For me it has to be original 1975 delivery CX, then the early/mid 80s revisions 👍
 
If the Saudia had no problems then I think you were right, they both got taken down for being too early. Hopefully, we will see them next month! :)
Would be a nice Christmas present for us! Those are among the top few remaining classics for NG to make on their L-1011 mould.

They definitely would! If NG gave us the Suadi and CX I might explode. They need to stop giving us the same old boring Suadi 787-9s in slightly different liveries, and show us a real gem!

Yep, these are the real gems, the classic ‘golden oldies’ and Saudia o/c will join the Gulf Air example very nicely - both very familiar regulars at LHR back in the day. I do already have the AV400 version which fills the gap for the moment.

The picture below (LHR scene in winter 1978/79) is from the inside cover of an old ‘I-SPY’ book I’ve had for years and years…always wanted to recreate that line-up in 1:400. Nearly there now! Just about in view, right at the very end on the right is a TWA L-1011-100 (converted), still in the old ‘Twin Globes’ scheme - these came into LHR from Spring 1978.

Here are my purchases for this year, so far. I managed to purchase 14 models, and have 2 on pre-order for December arrival, both NG's, the Trans World final colors L-1011 N31029 and the Southwest Tennessee One 738 N8620H. The one highlight is the AC Eastern 727-100 N8116N, been wanting one made for awhile now.

KLM/Viasa 747-200 PH-BUG by Phoenix:

I know it might seem naive of me to put a Phoenix 747-200 in any "favorites" list, and that's fine, but you need to remember and understand that this is entirely and purely subjective. So, no I don't need my prescription adjusted, nor I am blind or deranged. It is simply that this was the only model with the livery of a Venezuelan airline stamped on it released in 2022, and that alone makes it a highlight for me (JC announced a Conviasa A340-600, but that could very well become a 2030 release 🤣). And to be honest, in spite of being the Phoenix mold, and it having multiple errors on the livery, it seems to have sold fairly well, the AC version is just too desirable and rare...

Southwest 737-300 Silver One by Panda:

Never released before, it is a nice classic that hits close to home too as it brings memories of visiting Houston in the nineties. Not to mention it is a pretty nice little model.

Southwest 737-800 in the Heart One livery with scimitar winglets by NG Model:

NG did an excellent job with their SW 738s in 2022. I find this one with the regular livery particularly special as they fly overhead all the time.

KLM 767-300 in the delivery colors by JC Wings:

Out of all the nice 767-300s that JC Wings is pumping out this one is the winner for me. One of my personal favorite liveries of all time! So glad to see JC re-release this, as the Aercolassic version is very sought after.

Aerounion A300 by Aeroclassics:

I've always thought cargo airlines add diversity and an exotic touch to air traffic in the current times of streamlining and consolidation, and Aerounion is always nice to see. Unfortunately, I think Andrew went too far by making the 767-200 rare by design before it was even released, but luckily I managed to get a hold of the A300.

I never imagined this would be released, but was pleased to see it as it allowed me to get a model with the same logo of the wings that I got to wear for almost six years. Certainly, a model with a lot of personal meaning that I was happy to see released.

2022 had some outstanding models released, the Delta L1011s by NG (I own one) and the ITA A350 by Aviation 400 (I missed it) come to mind, but I only included the most meaningful models on a personal level for me in the list.

Southwest Tennessee One has arrived, finishing my purchases for 2022. Looks like the TWA L-1011 will be available in 2023.
 
I bought only a few models because of the crazy prices these days, and my favorite is the Aeroclassics Aerocaribbean IL-18 (pax). Mould is very good, great and colorful livery, not something you see everyday, just overall an excellent release. I hope in 2023 we will see more of these unique releases.

Happy New Year to you as well. Very nice models there. I also have those 2 Southwests. I have been wanting that Silver One for so long, that I was really tempted to purchase a blank 737-300 in bare metal and try to find a way to make decals for it. I'm so glad that Panda released it.
 
My list of acquisitions this year:

- I started off January with a six model haul. One major highlight was an Egypt Air Boeing 707, of which I lost the original copy I had as a kid many years ago. Thankfully PandaFox Toys had a bunch still left on clearance so I figured why not? Also in this were various releases I saw that interested me, the Amerijet Boeing 767-300F being another highlight. This would be my sixth model from the March 2021 releases, of which I have both CRJs, Kalitta 727, Southwest 737 Retro, and the Frontier A321 already.

- February’s only highlight was the American Eagle Embraer 175 I had preordered after the Christmas holiday. This would be my only new acquisition for the month.

- March was a big month. I made a trip to Minneapolis and bought a handful of models from DGPilot and another local hobby shop. Some highlights included the Northwest Boeing 757-200, United Boeing 737 MAX 8, United Boeing 737-900ER, and United Boeing 757-200. Unfortunately, the aforementioned 737-900, along with an American 757-200 Jet Flagship, and Continental Retro 737-900 were broken (I bought the Continental as a Scratch and Dent). I also picked up my first 1:200 model, a Delta Connection CRJ-900. My first Retro FSD model of the year arrived at the end of the month, that being the Northwest DC-9-50.

- April’s major highlight was the North Central DC-9-50 I snatched off a Waffle collection sale for a little more than what I desired. However, with this being the only good opportunity I have seen since I got this, I figure that it was worth it. A nice Easter haul arrived shortly after, as I got my first Breeze model in the Breeze Embraer 195.

- In May, I completed my search for the current American Eagle aircraft as my American Eagle CRJ-700 arrived. Also, my Southwest Boeing 737-700 Missouri One arrived, which was ordered alongside the American 737-800 I ordered a while back, but Waffle was kind enough to ship the American separately and then get Missouri One to me later. Very pleased with his effort in that situation.

- June marked a turning point for the collection, as I picked up a whopping 26 models at the Airliners International 2022 convention in Chicago. There’s a lot of highlights from that haul, but I’ll pick out the best. Northwest Orient Boeing 377, jetBlue Airbus A320 High Rise, Delta Boeing 767-200 “Farnborough ‘82”.

- July marked a quiet period as my wallet needed some time to recover after the blowout from Airliners. A United Express BAe 146 and Delta Connection/Comair CRJ-100 were the only arrivals this month.

- August had a small handful of models, one highlight being the Northwest Airlink/Pinnacle CRJ-200 I found on eBay. I also had a three model haul of which the TWA Lockheed L-1011 Tristar was the major highlight from it.

- I ordered a pair of September releases which arrived at the tail end of the month. Both the Allegiant Airbus A319 and Mesa CRJ-900 were in great shape.

- October had a nice retro pair arrive in the Braniff L-188 Electra and Frontier Convair 580.

And that’s where we stand. I have acquired 62 new models this year so far.
Capping off the year as another two months have passed, I had 81 new models arrive this year, with sixteen Christmas models and three additional models. Four more on the way as we head into 2023.
 
Don't think I had put anything here yet so I am going to put something here.
2022 was not my favorite year. But I did get into model plane collecting seriously in September and got my first NG models in August. I also made a tiny model airport because it would be fun. Also thanks to @Qantas992 I got a Delta L-1011 into my bedroom after wanting one for a while. Lastly the discovery of this website was amazing with all of the amazing people here. Anyways have a happy new year!
 
As I started collecting just this year, I would have to mention all my planes since everyone is amazing in its own way, but my really outstanding favorite pick ups are these (they are all NG except the Lufthansa 787 which is from AV400 and that’s also the reason why she made it onto this list here 😉):
