Amsterdam Aviation Fair Acquisitions

In September I had the privilege of getting to visit the AMS Fair, which is the largest in the world. Not only did I get to meet some cool people like @Steinar and @1400_Aircraft_Models but I also spent too much as usual :)

I'll use this thread to show off some of the models I acquired.

First up is an Aeroclassics Virgin Airbus A340-300. I don't get a lot of VS as I don't collect past 2000 for UK carriers (mostly). This A340 was however delivered on January 21, 1994 as their 3rd A340. She served with them for a decade and joined BWIA in January 2004 as 9Y-JIL in a hybrid white fuselaged scheme. She joined Lufthansa Technik in March 2007 as D-AIEL and was broken up in June 2009.

The Aeroclassics A340 is an excellent and pioneering mould in 400 scale from a time when Aeroclassics could be trusted for quality new moulds.

That's a very nice looking A340 model indeed. For a second I thought it was a Phoenix model, maybe due to the shiny wheel hubs (which I sadly don't like much, but not bothersome on this particular model).

It was very nice meeting you in Amsterdam. I noticed your bag was much bigger than mine so I know you spent much more than me🤓. But I know you got some good models at good bargains👍🏻

A great mould to be sure, nice catch mate!

Was great meeting you, @Steinar and @Mark22 there for sure!

Aside from a couple of plane skin parts, a book and some safety cards I got the following models at the fair:

Not trying to capture your thread here of course haha, but I figured I might as well put mine here as well instead of creating a thread of my own.

Cheers

Nice models. I picked up a Capital Connie too although I already have one. I figured I'd have one in the cabinet and one on Wright Field. Hard to pass up for 10 Euros!

Given my collection criteria is quite wide the range of models I bought was correspondingly also fairly wide. I've recently been expanding into non-Russian CIS nations so this Uzbekistan Tu-154 was a nice buy. Although NG have the new mould they are not using it much and I can't see them getting around to airlines like this anytime soon sadly, especially in this earlier livery. Golden Wings was one of the pre-Phoenix Tucano Line sublines. The model dates from 2003.

The aircraft was delivered new to Aeroflot in 1980 as CCCP-85397 and had transferred to Uzbekistan control by early 1993 without a reg-prefix as simply 85397. By mid-96 she had gained the UK prefix and appears to have served for around another decade before disappearing.

Next Up from my AMS haul is an Afghan 727-200. I already own the Aeroclassics Ariana DC-10 in the earlier scheme but for 10 Euro I couldn't pass up this Schuco / Gemini release from 2002. It's a lovely scheme and the old Gemini 727-200 still holds its own quite comfortably as a great 400 scale 727. This aircraft was a series 228 Adv originally delivered to Air France in Feb 1981 and sold to Ariana in October 1992. It was withdrawn on August 31, 2021 by which time it was with the Afghan Air Force.

Plenty more model additions to go. Today's is another classic Tu-154 release - this one from Aeroclassics in 2004, the first CSA model ever released. The Aeroclassics 154 has always had an oddly tall nosegear and this is really the sort of model I shouldn't need to acquire since NG Models now has a Tu-154. However, my faith that they will ever release more than a handful of 154s means that even a major carrier like CSA is probably years away from a release. Super annoying, but anyway, in the meantime this old model still works nicely.

This aircraft was quite a late made Tu-154M being delivered new to CSA in April 1988 and named 'Karlovy Vary'. It was sold to China United in September 1992 as B-4023 and withdrawn from use by July 2001.

Awesome looking TU-154! I agree on the nosegear, it almost reminds me of a Super Connie, a bit odd. It is a shame we haven't seen many TU-154s from NG, however, last month was a start!

Back from FRA and there are still plenty of AMS Fair models to show off. The next one is this Aeroflot Ilyushin Il-96. Phoenix have just re-released this but this version dates from 2012 and is just as good. The aircraft itself was delivered in July 1993 and withdrawn on April 30, 2014. It then went to Cubana as CU-T1717 in a hybrid scheme and was withdrawn on May 15, 2017.
