American Heritage A321's

Got out to take some better photos of these guys, plus I have the America West retro now as well for the complete set. Hoping Gemini actually releases the US Airways version soon so I can have all gemini for consistency sake. Enjoy the photos!

All 5 aircraft of these aircraft are part of a late 2010s US Airways order of more airbus aircraft. This makes all of these aircraft legacy US aircraft, even though most of these were delivered during/after the intent to merge. This makes these 5 aircraft some of the newest legacy US aircraft that will ever grace this scale!

This is N578UW, an AA 321-231. It was delivered to US Airways in early 2014 and by the end of the year was transformed into this retro livery with the replaced AA titles on the fuselage. US Airways operated from 1997*
-2015. It was the rebrand of the then USAir from 1979-1997. On February 14, 2013, US Airways Group and AMR Corporation announced that the two companies would merge to form the largest airline in the world. The combined airline would carry the American Airlines name and branding, while US Airways' management team, including CEO Doug Parker, would retain most operational management positions. I chose to take photos on this Pittsburgh board as they had a vast hub here from 1979-2004.

N579UW is another AA A321-231 delivered in May of 2014. It was delivered in the standard AA colors and was repainted in 2023 to replace the 319 in this retro livery. Allegheny was a regional airline from 1952-1979, primarily serving the eastern US. As deregulation hit, they rebranded into USAir and retained the Allegheny name under their regional services until 1989. US Airways and AA had a retro A319 painted in this style of livery until these 321s replaced them. Without Allegheny starting it all, these planes might never exist!

N580UW is an A321-231 delivered in June of 2014. It was also delivered in the standard AA colors until 2013 when it was replaced with the America West Retro, replacing the 319 that wore it. America West was an airline from 1983-2007, when it was merged into US Airways. In the second quarter of 2005, America West entered merger negotiations with then-bankrupt US Airways. It was structured as a purchase of US Airways by America West Holdings; however, the internal structure was a reverse merger, with legacy US Airways operations taken over by those of America West. N581UW is an A321-231 delivered June of 2014. It was also delivered in the AA colors until 2023 when it was repainted to the Piedmont Retro. Piedmont Airlines was founded in 1961 as Henson Airlines. USAir group purchased Henson Airlines in 1987 and utilized them under regional services. The Piedmont name was resurrected in 1993, when USAir renamed Henson to "Piedmont Airlines". In 1997, USAir was renamed US Airways, and Piedmont and Allegheny were likewise re-branded as US Airways Express carriers. US Airways merged Allegheny Airlines into Piedmont in 2004. (Wikipedia) Piedmont still operated under the American Eagle brand flying 72 E145s based out of Charlotte and Philadelphia.

The last one is N582UW, another 2014 delivered A321-231. It was delivered in the standard AA colors till 2023 when it was repainted into the PSA Retro scheme. Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA) was a low cost US airline headquartered in San Diego, California, that operated from 1949 to 1988. In 1986, USAir agreed to purchase PSA, the transaction closed in 1987 and PSA was integrated into USAir in 1988. The PSA acquisition gave USAir a network on the West Coast, but by 1991 USAir had largely withdrawn from California in the face of fierce fare wars driven, in significant part, by the spread of Southwest. Today, American Airlines continues to protect the PSA trademark by using it as a name for a regional airline subsidiary, PSA Airlines. (Wikipedia) Today they fly 60 CRJ700s and 80 CRJ900s out of Charlotte, Dallas FW, Philadelphia, and Washington Reagan.

Im hoping in the next few months as thats seemingly been the pattern here. Its the last one left so you'd think🙃 The aero will do for now but the blue in the american titles and that silver is so off to me...
I agree, I have the same model and that silver and also the blue in the titles just don't look right...

it’s been a few months now even from then…hopefully in these next few months. It would just be odd of them to do all the others except that one right??😭😭

Great photos and write up. These Gemini A321s look good, much better with the IAE engines.

Thank you Richard! I agree, I particularly love these couple of models from them. Something about the US Airways Airbus fleet is that the original mass order in the 90s was for CFMs, so it’s just that touch easier to identify which era each plane is from. the 2010s order of airbus’ were all IAE engines.

Gemini probably released all but that one to keep collectors such as yourself waiting just a tad bit longer on purpose hahahaha.
