AMA Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport 1:400

Update for today:

I still have a few tweeks to do to this structure and pylons. Next up are the front windows and second floor to gates. More updates on the way!

Thank you all!

Here's another update:

I'm beginning the curvilinear and sloped roofing as well as the airport operations side (which most likely was part of the old terminal based on the looks of it and location). This has been a real challenge, but fun. I'll keep more coming as I go.

The operations side was my favorite part of the IND project. It was rarely photographed and I had to make educated guesses at what everything was.

This isn’t a model airport, it’s literally a work of art!
Old school modeling! Sheet styrene, paint, and glue... the way we all would have done it 20 or 30 years ago! Almost a lost art with 3D printing. Especially in a scale this small.

I do have a lead on GSE. Tiny Tug Designs on ebay. He's making custom colored stuff for the various airlines that served IND over the years (including Southwest with the desert gold and canyon blue schemes). Which you will need for AMA. Tell him I sent you.

Update from this Tuesday:

I started the gates a few days ago. These are a real tedious task; one of the hardest I've ever done in '400 scale. The gates mostly consist of JC Wings '400 747 two set -- 3 packs which works for the six gates @ AMA. AMA isn't just a more difficult because of the architectural design, but has gates that would have to be customized to meet the realistic look. Each gate took a while consisting of thirteen(13) different pieces put on from plastics and other 3D prints bough off eBay. The gate connections to the terminal consist of seven(7) different cut and sanded pieces as well. You'll notice the longer glass front of the gates which is the extra pieces from the JC Wings packs that's been cut and sanded. Yes, a lot of sanding from various gradients. I have one more gate (gate 2) to finish up and then need to detail the stairs and tweek some balancing on them. I'll keep you all posted on updates and thanks again for the comments everyone!

Here's an update on the gates:

The gates are fully adjustable to about a 747 down to a CRJ or below. These have been difficult, but worth the hassle. One more gate to go. More updates to come!
