YY MD-11 House review

Ok finally a late late night arrival with two boxes of flappy flaps YY MD-11 House. 1777614843001.png Like I said from a post earlier this one wasn’t easy to get because all the online stores where I usually get the YY/HXs are either out of stock or don’t even list it for some reasons. And this is a fairly new release just announced weeks ago so what’s going on? I’m talking about the flappy flaps version not the regular. There’s one on evilBay listing for crazy $100+ with just one piece absolutely insane 1777614853258.png

Excuse for the bad lighting, it was super dim I had to take out my 7000K Korean branded LED camping light to help out 1777614843001.png

Let’s dive in for a brief review 1777614843001.png

First off, as always, the packaging. Last time on the CX 80th 748F and VR-HUH reviews I criticized the clamshell popping issue causing the box to dent. This MD-11 is absolutely the opposite. The clamshell made for the box doesn’t pop and fit nicely into the box even with the bag of display stand and collectible card stuck inside.

This MD-11 box is a bit softer than those 747 boxes but no issue at all with the two things I mentioned.

Design: The box looks exactly same as the 1:200 SQ version, I mean the graphic and design. Think of it like a shrink version of the SQ 1:200 version.

Mint-mint box factor: 👑
Overall:
★★★★★

Paint quality and details

Like what I just mentioned on the box design, think of this as a shrink copy of the 1:200 SQ version. It’s not missing any noticeable small fine details as I compare it with the SQ, which I also own two copies of the flaps version. But being the small size as a 1:400, those airline logos obviously won’t look as crisp when you zoom in for a close look. Just like any other YY/HX the attention of detail is unbeatable as you can see almost every single panel gap line is printed along the fuselage, tail, wings, stabilizers, etc.

But some extra small details I would like to see on this MD-11 are thrust reversers gap-line imprints (on engine #1 and 3). The 747s feature those detailed imprints so not sure why this MD-11 doesn't.

Wheel hub caps also don’t look as detailed as the 747s. Hope to see improvement in the future.

Polished metal quality: I don’t see any bad blemishes or ugly noticeable scratches. It’s nicely done throughout.

Overall: ★★★★☆

Value/Conclusion

So this is my first YY/HX MD-11 model, and I’m satisfied with the quality, mint-mint box factor also the details. I really wanted to get this one because I have the 1:200 SQ flaps version and would like to compare between both scales on the details. I would like to see YY/HX venturing into other trijets like the L-1011 or DC10 1777614843001.png

Awesome model !
Agreed with you regarding the trijets, HX should venture into the DC-10 and L-1011.
We can add the 727.
New DC-10 and 727 molds would be welcome.
And since NG fell asleep with the L-1011, a new brand (wich?) could take back their excellent mold.
Making a new L-1011 mold is tricky, given the quality of NG’s mold, but why not if HX is as good as elsewhere?

I feel like making a new mould for the l1011 is a little pointless most major l1011 have already been made and at least according to ng wishes we should be gettting some more with some being popular rereleaes (delta) but the wishes programme has its problems

For me, it’s a double problem : malfunction of the wish program and stopped using the mold (or anecdotal use).

If the NG mold is used again, by them or Buchannan for example (or another brand if there are candidates), and at a good rate, a new mold is no longer useful in my opinion.
But as it is not currently the case, a new mold, if it’s at least as good, could make it possible to obtain the expected liveries that have not yet been produced, like the prototypes for my part (at least one of the prototypes was a request from the NG program – I don’t know if the vote has been approved), or even some already produced liveries (as it was the case with Pan Am).
Among the trijets, I don’t see why the MD-11 would have its prototypes and not the L-1011! 😉
Even the DC-10 had its own with Patriot (admittedly on the old Aeroclassics mold, for lack of anything better for now).

The liveries still to be produced may not all be "major", although some may be, but they can nevertheless be worthy of interest, especially for collectors ready to buy them. And in my opinion, the prototypes are major liveries in the history of an aircraft...

So glad I got mine! What I also really love about Hx/ YY is how they include fuselage panel lines. This has never been done ( AFAIK) in the model world! It’s extraordinary detail and I’m so impressed with this company!

I was finally able to register on Taobao and checked the availability, most stores are already out of stock on the flaps version. Some stores have low stock on the regular version as well.

Couple stores' examples but I looked through all of them. Flaps version are greyed out unavailable:

Also, it looks like Taobao doesn't allow the stores to sell outside China? I got this message rolleyes.gif

I don't know why this particular release especially the flaps version gets sold out or become unavailable much quicker than many others or the 1:200 SQ version, and some online retailers probably won't be getting the allocation like North America, Southeast Asia, Australia, etc. I checked all the stores from those regions none of them have it listed or available to pre-order.

Only several European stores still carrying it and remaining stock is unknown.

If you really want this one then probably it's time to get ahold of one sooner 1777681377435.png Who knows if those regions will really be getting allocation or restock again.

Absolutely, I wonder if the manufacturer of HX/YY/SQ has the most advanced tampo machines or if the graphics dept has the most hard working folks to create the most detailed artwork 1777682079108.png The details of these models just make other brands so far behind 1777682079108.png
