[ UPDATED] 2022 BB400 Air India Boeing 747-337(M) VT-EPX "black antiglare" - B743 visual differences

I agreee! South America is so under-represented. Brazil, for example, has many carriers and interesting history as well!
YES! GeminiJets, NG Models, etc, where are they? In my videos, I'm always talking about South America and needing more models from there. Where are they? At least we got a Varig 737 classic recently.

Yes that's kinda shame that manufacturer have not paid attention to the region. Alas IIRC PHX did some S. American NEO.

Indeed, deserving of a better mould.
I agree! However this one is already the staple of 747 in 1:400
Surely, the most anticipated mold but I heard that it would not be out very soon, so unfortunate..

Aviation 400 or Panda should have done the 747 mould. Could do a ton of extremely in demand models. But now they r focused on the 777 9. Which is not very needed. Would like to know what others think.

You have to think it's coming soon. Just feels like it.
Yes it is surely very soon. IIRC but the 748 got the priority. That's fine for example new LH scheme that GJ did with the wrong reg (Herpa did the right one on JC mould but extremely high price). Not the Classics that collectors want.

I agree, but sadly we have been thinking that since the SP came out, I wish NG would just listen.
Yes it is true. They have some similarities (not all) so NG should have done it right away like their usual style. However I really hope when making the 742 743 NG should pay more attention to some minor details, which would appear on my tonight's post regarding the visual differences of the 742 743.

I agree too. The previous AV400 had an amazing 747 castings, the seamless version of the holy-grail BB/AC mould but it was not used extensively. They are aiming for future releases with the 779.

It seems that the new AV400 is focused on modern widebodies, shown in their new A380 and 777X. It’s a shame, as they have proven that they are extremely capable of creating high-quality moulds. Oh well, we wait on NG I guess.

The Av400 that had the 747 mould is the same company thats is Aviation 400 now. Or is this a new one focusing on newer planes.

Part 3: B743 real aspects: mould differences for 1:400 releases

This part is the last installment of the B743 Triology. I have collected some visual differences among the 81 Boeing 747-300 built. Not being a good graphic designer, I have tried to put them to show my ideas. And credits to the original photo owners as well.

Our first subject to discuss is the HF and non-HF wings, which to my eyes have different wingtip cross sections. The illustrations are not the same size so it is difficult to realize. The non-HF wings are also present on late built 742 and also 747-400D (the Japanese domestic high cycles version). This would require 2 different wings. A total of 13 out of 81 743 did not have HF-antenna on the wings.

Secondly, the engine options. There are actual 5 different options according to what I have collected, but only 4 different outlooks to be seen. Those are:
- PW JT9D-7R4G2
- RB211-524C2 / 524D4
- GE CF6-50E2 (on the classic 742s)
- GE CF6-80C2B1 (on the modern B744)
The classic CF6-50E2 has a more bulbous side-view, whereas the modern CF6-80 curves very little. The difference is shown in red curve/line.

And finally, our main topic of interest: the wing-to-body fairing. There are 2 versions available, which include the original B747 classic and the updated, streamlined, more aerodynamics one found on the successful B744. The difference is marked yellow.

Also, from my research, I have tried to create an Excel file which contains the info above with the 81 airframes. The active regs mean that the aircraft was in used and had a livery with that reg. There are cases that 1 reg has multiple liveries. I really hope that any future B743 manufacturers would come across this list.

I have divided the visual appearances of the B743 into 4 different versions:
- STANDARDS: with HF wingtip and original WBF. There are total 57 aircraft. An example: cn 23413 YV3531 Emtrasur: GE CF6-50E2, with HF antenna, classic WBF.
98108_1656639560.jpg

- Non HF has 6 aircraft. Example cn 24108 PP-VOC
61221_1277122656.jpg

- Only WBF has only 1 - cn 24156 JA8189.
41988_1449410669.jpg

- Modern update = 744 WBF without HF antenna on the wings. Total 7 aircraft. Example: cn 24162 SU-GAM
89897_1416841425.jpg

My recap for the moulds (option seamless):
Fuselage: 2 (classic (can be used to make B747-200SUD) and B744 (with the modern WBF))
Engines: 4 options
Wings: 4 options
- With HF: 2 (classic and modern WBF)
- Without HF: (classic and modern WBF)

My question is that: are there any other visual appearance differences that I missed? Please share with me here! Also, which scheme would you like to be made. For me top of the list would be the Varig B743 classic both versions (CF6-50 and CF6-80), remake again Cathay Lettuce (1 "non-HF" and 1 "Modern updates"), the famous Emtrasur, and so on...

Very nice, thorough and definitive analysis. I would hope any manufacturers would read this before setting out to make any 743 moulds (NG). I think my favourite combination would be the HF antenna with RB211s.

Thank you so much for your compliment. I have high hopes for NG when releasing the B747!

Thank you for the help on the 747 classic! Challenging to catch these differences as I’m trying to learn more about these retro aircraft. Really helpful!
