Show Your Latest 1:400 Purchase

A recent pickup from AirSpotters is this Avianca Boeing 707-359B HK-1402. Avianca had started jet operations by leasing a Pan Am 707-121 in October 1960 and then acquiring a single 720 to replace it in 1961, followed by a second in 1965. It wasn't until 1968 that their first owned 707 was delivered. HK-1402 'Sucre' arrived on March 7 and was joined by HK-1410 'Bolivar' on April 24, 1970. Six further 707-321B/Cs, all ex-Pan Am, would be added during the late 70s. HK-1402 served until being broken up at Miami in June 1993.

Here she is next to HK-1849 in a later more colourful scheme. 1849 had been Clipper Mermaid N796PA with Pan Am until sold to Colombia in April 1976. She stayed with Avianca until 1985 when she joined Burlington Air Express as N865BX.

Nice addition to your Avianca 707 fleet Richard!

Coincidentally, I actually do have HK-1402 in my fleet.

The only Avianca 707 I need to complete my Avianca 707 fleet is HK-1849.

It seems so hard to find.

Would you know anyone that might have a spare model?

I have a spare model of HK-2070 in the early 1980s livery which I would consider to trade for anyone who is willing to spare a HK-1849.

Much appreciated.

I thoroughly enjoy your posts too Richard!

Thanks. Sorry I don't know anyone who would have it. You're right Avianca models are hard to find!

Some lovely models here! Sad to see the engine of that Cathay A330 touching the ground :(

Added two nice aircraft to the fleet.

The first is YY Wings’ An-225 with Buran from a few years ago. The model looks great, but when I first received it, both nose gears were broken (even though they’re quite short). I got a replacement, but noticed some tiny paint bubbles around the nose, especially on the left side. I’m also wondering if this is the same mould HX used for their recent Ukrainian An-225 — I’ve already pre-ordered that one.

The second is another YY Wings release — an original livery MD-11 using the HX mould. In my opinion, the rear of the No.2 engine looks much better than Panda’s (Panda has a noticeable straight line there). HX’s wing and engine printing is also much more detailed.Unfortunately, the size of the fan blades inside the No. 2 engine looks a bit off.

I love how this correctly represents the size of the exhausts on early GE equipped MD's

Three new 1:400 arrivals from last night.

American Airlines B777-323 N722AN from GJ.
Recently bought the AV400 (N736AT) release but I think the color on that one was kind of ”brownish” silver. The GJ version has better colors IMO.

China Southern B777-21B B-2057 from NG.

Did my first domestic flight in China on this type. Beijing-Shenzhen. It was back in Spring of 1997. Not on this specific aircraft though. This one was delivered in January 1998.

Last one! Apollo Virgin Australia/V Australia hybrid livery Boeing 777-300ER VH-VPE (I must say, I am much happier with this model compared to the latest Phoenix Models release. It may not have as much detail as Phoenix but the colours are much better).

Any hybrid livery is really great imo. It’s really nice to see the blend of liveries - we do need more in the scales!
