Show Your Latest 1:400 Purchase

Here are some models which I acquired at the FMO Modelltag taken place last weekend at the Münster/Osnabruck Airport. I was at the show on Saturday.

Starting with a quadruple of GJ's Tridents - clockwise from top right to top left:
- British Air Ferries Trident 1E G-AVYD
- Kuwait Airways Trident 1E 9K-ACF
- Cyprus Airways Trident 5B-DAD - this airframe was left to rot in Cyprus
- CAAC Trident 3B B-270
The Tridents are fascinating machines as being the first aircraft with autoland capabilities, whose computational power required much more space that led to the aircraft' s signature offset nose gear to the port side.

For my active aircraft collection, this 7-year old model from GJ - Flydubai Boeing 737-Max 8 A6-MAX. I would actually prefer a Max-9 but no manufacturer has made it.

Moving to the widebodies, a rare occurence with the best Tristar mould in the scale - and an interesting scheme as well is this British Airways Lockheed L1011-200 G-BGBC "The Shot Silk Rose" by NG in the Negus scheme with big titles. I was surprised to find it laying on the table, which the seller explained to me - it has a missng dot on top of the i on the starboard side, which he also explained to me how it could be repaired. With the current setup at my cabinet, the model appeared just fine since the port side was facing out. Anyway I am still glad to add this model.

This model made me doubt for long before acquiring it - a beautiful Ural Airlines Ilyushin IL-86 RA-86078 by JC. The aircraft was once spotted at my hometown airport carrying the tourists. I might wonder what was the routing then given the short range of Soviet's first widebody.

10 years has passed since the airline's collapse but Transaero still left me with vivid memories. It used to conduct multiple flights to SGN with various equipment - no guarantee on a specific type - originating from various places. I have seen stable amount of 744s - both the ex-SA airframe with RR and ex-JL with CF6s - to 762/3 and 772/3. The airline's bankruptcy meant at that time for me no representation since I was aiming at active airframes then. 10 years later, the scope has expanded and i am more than happy to welcome this defunct airlines. The last model I introduce today is Transaero B747-446 EI-XLD by JC. The airframe was later transferred to Rossiya, which carries the Amur Tiger special decoration on the nose.

Lufthansa 100 years 787-9 D-ABPU by NG.
This livery sure is a tough one for the factory.
The lighting in my setup sure is unforgiving and the lines are less prominent to the naked eye, but it shows the major problem with tampo printing: it's not 100% obaque. The white areas are masked off and blue is painted (airbrushed I guess?) and then the exact outlines are defined by applying a blue tampo print.
Still a nice model though. A slightly lighter shade of grey for cockpit wouldn't have hurt I think.

First models of the year! These two models were a part of NG's exchange event: The EVA Air from the most recent one, and the Love Live! from the previous one many months back.

Mandarin Airlines commenced operations in 1991 as a way around the PRC's attempts to pressure China Airlines international routes. It initially flew long-haul services with 747SPs and, from the mid-90s, MD-11s. China Airlines adoption of a livery without the Taiwanese flag on it somewhat removed the need for Mandarin to exist and following the 1999 merger with Formosa Airlines it switched over to largely domestic operations. However, some international segments survived to Seoul, Hong Kong and Ho Chi Minh City and in March 2006 A340-313 B-18851, delivered new to China Airlines in October 2003, joined the fleet. It flew for just over a year before sale to Qatar Executive as A7-AAH. It'sa little unclear why Mandarin operated the A340 but photos show it at a range of Asian destinations such as Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong and Ho Chi Minh. A slightly unusual operator of the A340, this release intrigued me and AV400's version turned out quite nicely.

EVA Air also began operations in 1991 with a trio of 767-300ERs. At least the first pair wore a much darker version of the below scheme prior to 1992. This aircraft began life as B-16601 with EVA in May 1991 (it had originally been destined for Monarch in the UK). The two original 767s were sold to Singapore Aircraft Leasing in 1994 and re-registered with US regs. B-16601 became N601EV. EVA picked up other 767-300s (2 in 1992) and 4 767-200s (in 1994). The first two left the EVA fleet in 2005 and were leased to Aeroflot where N601EV became VP-BWU. She flew with them until mid-2012. This is the Geministar release using the Panda mould.

Lovely birds!
That EVA is tempting as a custom donor. Wish I could find one for cheap and make a Transbrasil :ROFLMAO:
If only we had blank Panda 767s!

How does the AV400 A340 hold up? I know that their A330 mould has its issues with the nose and stance, but does their 340 share the same issues?

It's no masterpiece for sure. I reviewed one in September. Certainly not the best but no disaster either:

Thank you for reminding me of this review... I had my eye on their Air Lanka A340, but will pass - in hope that Panda or NG will eventually get around to it. Cheers Rich
