The turn of the century was a tumultuous time for Canadian aviation. Canada 3000 saw an opportunity to step into the gap left by Canadian's demise by building scale with acquisitions. It was a strategy that they would live to regret. New competition and 9/11 would push them over the edge but if they hadn't bought Royal they may well have survived:
