This part features my quick-snapshot on the IIAF duo released by Patriot Models in early 2025. The duo are operated by Imperial Iranian Air Force (IIAF) of the type Boeing 747-131(SF). The tanker bears the registration 5-284 and retained the TWA livery attributing the frame’s original customer while the military freighter 5-8101 was already painted in the green IIAF livery. most of which were sold on-site at the Beijing Hobby Expo China (HEC). As stated on the collector’s card, 350 sets are made with unknown numbers for each version:
- Standard features removeable landing gears using tapes.
- Flaps Down (like the one depicted in this post) with FIXED landing gears.

Both came with the special stand (it is quite fragile to be fair and i unfortunately broke the base when inserting the stand). The tanker has 2 different refueling probe representing extended for refuel or retracted mode. I have seen most collectors showcasing the standard version, since it helped recreating the famous photograph of mid-air refuelling. I decided to get the FD back in June due to availability despite the minor paint defect on the nose, which the seller clearly stated in the listing. Here are both models photographing together with extended fuel-boom installed on the tanker.

Both models together with the freighter in focus. The tanker was placed in a standard HX stand.

F2F v.2 but with the tanker focused. This angle shows the fully-deployed flaps of the Queen. And look how shiny the chrome is!

These are the photos from this quick snapshot. I hope you all enjoy the photos and hopefully I could receive your suggestions on which angles should I take next for these models in case of closer looks.

Patriot has been making impressive models, ultilizing some of the finest moulds in the scale. The printing detail is so crisp on this model and I really liked the option of having 2 different refueling booms. And yes, these 2 come as a bit higher than standard price tag - which could be explained why. Had Patriot made these FDs come with removable landing gears - that would look even cooler. But alas I could understand the cost balance.

For HX Models, I would really appreciate if a thinner stand-piece be available, which would make it much more easier to take pictures. I see that they already improved the nose gear length on this model compared to my SCA (or it could be my eyes deceiving me).

And my last thought: Flaps Down did not receive much interest. I could understand that it would not “fit” well to a parking position in a diorama. Also, it costs more to acquire initially. This could explain why that many FD stays on the shelf even when the standard config was long sold out. But I think I had developed a sweet spot for 747 with FD thanks to its impressive look. How is your thought on FD models?

I would love to get a 747 with flaps down. Other models like JC Wings 787s you can hardly tell. The 747 is dramatically different. I bought the Patriot 747-400 House colours and realised after I bought it that it was available flaps down

Lovely pics of this very nice set of Jumbos! Patriot and HX is such a great combination, and seeing an Iran Air Force model being released... it's not really something you see quite often! About Flaps Down models, I think they are really cool but I still didn't get the chance to have one. Models are very expensive for me and FD models are pretty much exclusive to landing pictures in dioramas so the regular flaps up version will always be more appealing to me.

If only we could have models with interchangeable wings! Now that would be a cool feature! :P

I agree with you. Both 787 and A350 FD looked quite similar to the standard version - with a tad higher wingflex and maximum flaps do not extend far away. It's however not the case with 747! (I can also include the 777, MD-11 and A380 into this group). But the 747 looked best imo.

Patriot releases focuses on subjects that are off the beaten track for regular manufacturers - they know how to do things right. And HX offers by far the best (albeit not flawless) mould for the Queen and Patriot made great use of it.

I also understand you point displaying FD models on diorama. That's the reason why my number of FD models dropped through the course of my collection (the only model I kept was CX A350 which had the same reg as the one i flew, and FD on the A350 doesn't have a dramatic different look like that with 747). So in the end i tend to prefer standard config as well.

Regarding interchangable wings like 1:200 snapfits - that would also be my choice and would serve a diorama really well.
