This part features my quick-snapshot on the IIAF duo released by Patriot Models in early 2025. The duo are operated by Imperial Iranian Air Force (IIAF) of the type Boeing 747-131(SF). The tanker bears the registration 5-284 and retained the TWA livery attributing the frame’s original customer while the military freighter 5-8101 was already painted in the green IIAF livery. most of which were sold on-site at the Beijing Hobby Expo China (HEC). As stated on the collector’s card, 350 sets are made with unknown numbers for each version:
- Standard features removeable landing gears using tapes.
- Flaps Down (like the one depicted in this post) with FIXED landing gears.
Both came with the special stand (it is quite fragile to be fair and i unfortunately broke the base when inserting the stand). The tanker has 2 different refueling probe representing extended for refuel or retracted mode. I have seen most collectors showcasing the standard version, since it helped recreating the famous photograph of mid-air refuelling. I decided to get the FD back in June due to availability despite the minor paint defect on the nose, which the seller clearly stated in the listing. Here are both models photographing together with extended fuel-boom installed on the tanker.
Both models together with the freighter in focus. The tanker was placed in a standard HX stand.

Moving to the starboard side with the tanker in focus.

Closer to both models.

Face-to-face.

F2F v.2 but with the tanker focused. This angle shows the fully-deployed flaps of the Queen. And look how shiny the chrome is!

Viewing from the back.

Freighter follows the tanker. Picture taken on the port side.

On the starboard side.

Close-up at the refuelling probe.

And finally - a single shot depicting the tanker.

These are the photos from this quick snapshot. I hope you all enjoy the photos and hopefully I could receive your suggestions on which angles should I take next for these models in case of closer looks.
Patriot has been making impressive models, ultilizing some of the finest moulds in the scale. The printing detail is so crisp on this model and I really liked the option of having 2 different refueling booms. And yes, these 2 come as a bit higher than standard price tag - which could be explained why. Had Patriot made these FDs come with removable landing gears - that would look even cooler. But alas I could understand the cost balance.
For HX Models, I would really appreciate if a thinner stand-piece be available, which would make it much more easier to take pictures. I see that they already improved the nose gear length on this model compared to my SCA (or it could be my eyes deceiving me).
And my last thought: Flaps Down did not receive much interest. I could understand that it would not “fit” well to a parking position in a diorama. Also, it costs more to acquire initially. This could explain why that many FD stays on the shelf even when the standard config was long sold out. But I think I had developed a sweet spot for 747 with FD thanks to its impressive look. How is your thought on FD models?
