Could be just that, like how YU used updated gears on the AC A300s
Looks great actually - with these gears. Need aerials and few more print details here and there, and it'll be fabulous

There are apparently aerials and I'm told they forced the factory to do higher quality printing that on usual Aeroclassics

The fact the factory is able to do a higher quality print, just speaks volumes of the cheapness of Aeroclassics now.

Supposedly the release is imminent. But it should be no surprise that deadlines in this hobby (or deadlines in general) are hard to meet more often than not.

Its not a surprise, it is to be expected, however the lack of communication is not. As of now it is three months past the estimated release date, and the only communication I have on where the model i paid for is, is through you. Patriot Models has a Facebook page they could be communicating with us through. I have posted twice on said page, very politely, asking for an update. Rather than simply saying "they are behind schedule, please be patient" they have instead deleted my posts.

Deleting posts of customers asking for order status is definitely not good. If I had to guess I'd say they are probably under a lot of pressure. I have not talked to them in recent days, but as of last week, communication was rather good with them. The House Color DC-10 is ready to ship, I paid for my order and they offered to ship it, but I opted to wait for the Tanker and have them all shipped together. There's no telling on when the tanker will be ready, but they are working on it.
Another thing, there were issues with some of the KC-33s. Seems like they need to be treated with silk gloves during shipping as the moment you rough them up a bit, all the accessories start to fall off. Shipping these models with a bunch of add-ons held on by a drop of glue is like shipping a pre-assembled plastic kit... So maybe they are working on ways to mitigate those issues with the DC-10 Tanker? Just a guess.
I have not requested any updates from them because by now I am used to just wait. In my experience, either a model will eventually show up at my doorstep, or I will get a refund. I have yet to see somebody run away with my money in this hobby (someone tried to do that once through eBay, unsuccessfully).
I agree with you, Pre Orders are utterly frustrating. But that's a whole other topic on its own.

Looks stunning. I won’t be picking up this scheme as it doesn’t match my criteria, but delighted to see such a quality DC-10 enter the market. Fingers are crossed some beautiful 80s releases: Swissair, Air Afrique, Lufthansa, Nigeria Airways, VIASA, all come to mind.

You realise this is just the Aeroclassics DC-10 with tyres and aerials added to it. Patriot are not going to be making lots of DC-10s and Aeroclassics wouldn't let them either

The new gears really look amazing, such a big improvement over the original Aeroclassics gears IMO.
However, the cockpit windows look crap. The two front windows (the ones with wipers) are way too small.

Impressed with the packaging - the model is made at the AC factory as I understand, and it's hard to shake that off - the cockpit window inconsistency is usually always an issue in ACs DC-10s - the recent Alitalia & Continentals were a good example.A few more pics of the DC-10 house colors. Yeah, sadly it seems Patriot reproduced the very same cockpit windows of the AC DC-10.
I've also noticed black engine intake rings, instead of silver. I wonder why Aeroclassics keep doing this?! I've noticed this on previous DC-10 releases aswell.
The real one doesn't have them in black!

Yes - that is another recurring problem.
Also note the incorrect junction at the wing root - the leading edge junction with the grey composite portion. This is also an issue on all AC DC-10s
As much as I want this, I'm not too sure really, unless the price point is at say NG Lite level or at HX level (140-165 MYR or 31-37USD)
HX's A380's are retailing at ~35 USD
