My biggest project yet

I’m starting a 5x4 1/200 airport set in Scandinavia. This is a completely new scale for me and the biggest single board I’ve ever done. Throughout this project I’m going to try new techniques for weathering and such, so if you guys have any advice I’d be happy to hear it. I’m still trying to decide wether to get someone to 3d print a terminal for me or get a 3d printer and do it myself, so for now I’m only working on the ramp and taxiways.

I usually create mine using MDF wood blocks.
This is the terminal of my model airport during construction. Maybe this can give you some inspiration:

But this was in the early stages of construction. I have painted it and added details later.

MDF is fine to use, will be very sturdy in the end. Some people use Basla wood as you can cut it with a hobby knife easily and find it at craft stores. Some use thick cards stocks and glue to achieve what they want. Of course, you could also go the 3D printed route as well and I could shoot you a few names of people that will design and print for you. All depends on cost, how creative you are, and how quickly you want it done!

Time is not a constraint for me, honestly doesn’t matter if I get this done in a month or a year. Price is my only concern for the terminal. I hadn’t thought about balsa wood but that seems like the cheapest option so I’ll prob try it out on a smaller scale to see if I like it. If you could maybe drop some names of people who could print the terminal for me so that I might dig a bit deeper into the actual cost of that.

I’ve started building the terminal using balsa wood, and I’m honestly impressed that I haven’t screw it up yet. Fingers crossed I don’t make any huge mistakes but who knows. This terminal is meant to be temporary but I’m still putting maximum effort into every detail. I also started the taxiway but it’s a bit splotchy so I’m going to redo it.
