Local RC Shop Burglarized

There's an RC shop just a short drive away from home called Performance RC Hobby. I'm not an RC guy, but it is always cool to drive by and see all the airplanes hanging from the ceiling. Sometimes I go in just for kicks. I noticed they have some Tamiya paints and thought about going there the next time I needed some.

Well, earlier this week, a stolen pick-up truck backed up through the front door in the middle of the night, and a gang of scumbags poured in to take whatever they could. Pretty dramatic videos of the whole thing are circulating on social media.

Though RC is not my thing, I do feel sympathy towards other branches of aviation "modelism," and it just makes my blood boil to see the whole thing, especially knowing how much effort and passion go behind a small family-owned hobby business.

It is unviable for me right now, but I have toyed with the idea of opening a physical store when I retire from the airlines decades down the road, just to have something to do with my life, and this is one of the things that worries me the most. Heck, even on collectibles shows, you can't let your guard down, unfortunately.

Anyway, seems like the RC community poured in to support the guys at Performance RC Hobby, and they're back at it, almost unscathed.

Crazy story - wow.

Welcome To Brazi... oh wait, that was in the US 😅 that's horrible. Hope they catch these bastards soon

I know right? Robberies in the U.S. are actually as common as in Latin America. I doubt they'll catch them, and if they do, it'll just be a slap in the wrist.

I guess the good news is that in spite of all that devastation, the store bounced back remarkably well. Just part of the realities of living in a world in which inequality and inescrupulous people are part of everyday life. Carry on.

For y'all non-Americans - America is NOT as safe as it seems. I mean, in places like where I live (Chicago suburbs) or, say, rural middle-of-nowhere, you'll be fine, but, for example, in my city of Chicago, even the good neighborhoods in the city proper get at least a few shootings/stabbings/acts of violence a year. And the bad neighborhoods.... Let's not talk about them.
