the question is, with NG's MD80s in the pipeline (despite months of wait expected before we can finally see the first product), will you still go for JC's version.

I've seen the list and there are 20 models. The NZ ATR and Virgin Blue E-190 stand out for me but there are some nice 777s too (although they've been made before) plus the aforementioned KLM 747 and CAAC MD-80

Really glad to see JC Wings making the Virgin Blue E-190 in 400 scale. This was VH-ZPB that I flew on in September 2009 as DJ1326 between Melbourne and Hobart on the way to a wonderful two week holiday in Tasmania. Definitely a model I'll be looking to buy.
