Jacob’s “Model Mondays”

Hey all,

I started posting what i’m calling “Model Mondays” on my instagram to show off models in my collection. I’m planning to try showing off stuff I don’t get out much or stuff that doesn’t already have great photos online available. I’ll post them here as well for you all to see. All photos will be “standardized” showing both side angles, sometimes a front, plus a few others that I decide while photographing. The focus of this thread is on the models more than the diorama setups I normally do! (i’ll also loosely be abandoning my normal collection thread as well with all this. Probably posting more diorama setups content in that from now on if I do). Enjoy some photos!

This frame was originally intended for Aloha Airlines but was taken never taken up. Instead, it started its life with National Airways Corporation (NAC) in 1971 at ZK-NAJ. In 1978 it was transferred over to Air New Zealand. In 1986 it was moved to the United States under the “old” Frontier Airlines as N7310F and later that year finally moved to Continental Airlines. In 1992 it was re-registered to N10248 and then was finally withdrawn from use in September of 1998. I would assume it got painted into this globe scheme in 1992 when it was re-registered which puts this specific model in a 6 year window. It was broken up at Ardmore Municipal.

This aircraft has been a workhorse for American Airlines since its delivery in October of 1999. In late 2007 it was fitted with its winglets seen on the model and was then repainted into AAs “new” livery in early 2016. That puts this model in a period of about 9 years which isn’t too bad. Unitlllll you see the nosecone. In late 2013 it was fitted with a full grey nosecone so this model dates from late 2007 to late 2013; about 6 years. This frame was also stored for about 4 years during the covid-19 pandemic. It is still active in American Airlines’ fleet today.

This one is super nice. I stocked a few when I first opened the shop. They didn't last long. I did a comparison photoshoot with and NG one, but never got around to publishing it.

I'm no expert, but my perception is that there are subtle variations to the "Boeing narrow body nose." I want to say the chrome makes the Panda mold resemble a 707/727 more than a 737. An absolutely superb model nonetheless. I wish Panda came up with a 727 or 707; they've got the best Boeing narrow nose in the business, and they know where to print the cockpit windows.

I think it's because the windows and doors are a little high. Then the cheatline soops down towards the nose giving a 707/727ish illusion.

Here is the nose closeup I never included in the original post. I agree on all fronts from both of you. I do love this model a lot, a really nice representation, especially for the price I paid (a Black Friday bulk sale I believe)

Also, 34 bucks for this guy is a steal!

I thought the same. These C models, when purchased through Panda, have a markup. Either AMS liquidated it below cost, or they got it straight from C Models.

Whatever Black Friday sale they had that year was kinda insane. Also consider the fact that it’s shipping from an international shop for me as well (pre tarrif BS too keep in mind). One of my best bulk model purchases i’ve ever made I think.

That order included the following:
AA 737-800 (C Model shown above) 33.83
USAir MD82 (new GJ at the time) 25.35
American Eagle E175 retro 25.35
Republic House E175 25.35
AA A321 PSA Heritage (GJ) 25.35
America West 737-200 (AeroClassics) 16.89
US Airways A319 PSA Heritage (Aeroclassics) 16.89
AA A319 Allegheny Heritage (Aeroclassics) 16.89
AA A319 America West Heritage (Aeroclassics) 16.89
USAir 767-200 (Aeroclassics)25.35

Going back, the AA 738 was the most expensive part of the purchase🤣🤣 I truly haven’t had that good of a deal shopping online since then, even on other Black Fridays or other holidays.

Republic house for $25? That’s crazy!

N401PW is one of the most iconic aircraft ever made. It was the first of 694 747-400 aircraft built and lived a long life. You can even see it still today on display. Jan 26, 1988 it rolled off the assembly line and had its first flight on April 29th. one year later in December of 1989, Northwest took delivery of the aircraft. In 2002 this aircraft was involved in an incident in which it experienced a lower rudder hardover event. The pilots overcame and the plane was put back into service. Delta took on the bird after the merger in 2009. It was finally retired from service in September of 2015 and is now on display in Atlanta Georgia at the Delta Flight Museum.

This livery was worn while boeing had it for testing until Northwest’s delivery, putting it at around 1 year. A short time but a long iconic scheme. This paint scheme shows off the order customers logos near the nose, how many can you name?

Gorgeous model, a real beauty!!!

Gorgeous model, a real beauty!!!

Specially since you asked and I just got this thing!

Also on another note, photographing bare metal models is quite difficult to get the exposure right. Lots of very contrasting parts depending on the angle of the lense/light and all that in consideration. took me a minute to get all my settings to a reasonable level, plus actually editing the 747 photos just a touch to help general appearance overall. Quite interesting and something I never had to think about before!
