Hi to all.
Important announce by IAG (British Airways, Iberia-Iberia Express, Aer Lingus, Vueling, Level): starting by 2026 Vueling will switch to B737 MAX. Spanish low cost airline will receive 25 B737 MAX8-200 (like those used by Ryanair) and 25 B737 MAX10.
So a total change in a Group where Airbus is the only manufacturer in all the fleets.
Just one thing is not correct: one subsidiary of IAG main airline already used B737 (9 B737-800WL) and it was Comair, South African low cost subsidiary of British Airways.

Any reason stated?
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • IAG's Strategic Decision:
IAG (International Airlines Group), Vueling's parent company, has a large order with Boeing that includes 737 MAX aircraft. These aircraft are being allocated to Vueling to modernize its fleet and improve efficiency.

  • Efficiency and Growth:
The 737 MAX offers higher fuel efficiency, longer flying distances, and increased passenger capacity compared to some of Vueling's older aircraft. This will allow Vueling to operate more effectively on existing routes and potentially open up new, longer routes.

  • Mixed Fleet Transition:
The transition to a mixed fleet will be gradual, with the first 737 MAX deliveries expected in 2025. Vueling will temporarily operate a mixed fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft as it phases out older planes.

  • Market Expansion:
Vueling is focusing on strengthening its position in Barcelona and expanding its network in Spain and Europe. The new aircraft will support this growth by enabling more routes and increased capacity.

  • Potential for Further Expansion:
While Vueling has a firm order for 50 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, IAG has options for 100 more, which could lead to a complete replacement of Vueling's Airbus fleet in the future.
