Custom Lego Models

I've recently (about a year and a half ago) discovered "virtual Lego" modeling using Bricklink Studio. One of the neat features of this program is its ability to create custom parts that don't exist in the Lego catalog, so that you can potentially 3D print your own parts and incorporate them into your own physical model if you so choose. You can either create the custom parts in the Studio itself, or create them in 3D CAD and import them.

So far, I've focused on railroad subjects (locomotives and freight cars from the 60s through present), but have recently been convinced by a few Facebook friends to make the leap into airliners. I've accepted the challenge...

Shown here is what will become the inboard section of a wing for a Boeing 727 (1:35 scale, the standard scale for aircraft modeling in this medium). The wedge plates are my own designs, in specific sizes needed (yet not offered by Lego) to approximate the actual angles as closely as possible within the confines of the Lego grid system. The red area is temporary and will be removed to make way for flaps that can be extended and retracted.

If this goes well, I'd like to make a few other types that have frequented IND over the years.
