Are Tariffs Going to Kill 400 Scale?

Fair enough, just making a joke on the continuously raising tarrif amounts. But at the current 104% that puts it at $89, still more than I'm willing to pay
It would probably be less than that, since the basis is the wholesale, rather than the retail price. I don’t know how much, because I have no idea what retailer markups look like here. Still, the new prices would be substantially more than $44.

It was a topic of discussion this weekend at the Seattle Aviation Expo. The only price hikes that have been seen are the ones that ADI(Gemini) have done on the last round of new releases, and that was 5%. The manufacturers haven't received their next rounds of new releases on US soil yet, so the tax has yet to be seen.
There were two manufacturer owners at the Expo and neither has seen the the increases nor bills. AC will be implementing a $4 price hike this week on new releases, which is indictitive of current tariffs. The other manufacturers next round hasn't hit port yet so they are in the dark as much as everyone else.
What's funny as some of the retailers mentioned don't even get their product directly from the manufacturers as they are banned from them, and have to get from a 3rd party not on US soil, so I find that as taking advantage of the situation. We haven't raised prices with the exception of the 5% which was passed onto us from ADI. We will also be $4 more on the AC this week. Other than that we are sitting idle until the invoices are in our face.
Scott
Appreciate the clarification and transparency, Scott. Hope that the tariffs won't end up affecting pricing and profit margins for collectors and retailers alike, but we shall see. Hope that your business is running smoothly.

Holy hell man when will the madness stop. How does he see what’s going on and not see what’s being done here. Maybe I just really don’t understand but if there’s a true tarrif above even the 50% I don’t see how that doesn’t throw the US into MASSIVE recession.

Being born the year of 9/11, being young during the 2008 recession, covid during college, and now another possibly life altering recession just as i’m getting on my feet in life just stinks.

I think everyone right now is caught up in the 'What if??' ... Nobody really knows, and won't know until, again we start seeing invoices. AK was in the store today dropping off new releases for Friday and the Friday releases will be $4 more per model. The speculating is just that, speculating. We will see, and all that can be said. There is a strong possibility that it will be a massive markup, nothing we as retailers can do about it. It will be in the hands of the buyers and collectors whether they weather the markup or not. If it does come to fruition, in my opinion, most of those just selling new releases in the US will probably throw in the towel. We can already see the huge decline in online sales and we haven't even seen but minimal markups at this point. So I think the fear has already pointed folks the other direction. If folks would just wait and see before jumping the gun it would at least for the time being ease things. We should all know in a couple weeks what the reality is going to be.
For those outside of the US, and laughing, well, most of these companies rely on the US market for the majority of their orders and business. If it goes the way everyone is predicting, or speculating, you could see it globally crash and see a good deal of the manufacturers fold up and go away. That not only goes for our little niche hobby, but for lots of other industries reliant on the US for the majority of their business.
So folks need to take a deep breath and just wait it out, as that's really the only thing we can do.

Squanchy, thank you for being transparent and up front with everyone about this. I know you may have gotten some flakn so I just want to chime in and let you know I appreciate it.

$99 AUD, you mean? That would be ~$59 USD.
Exactly. Our exchange rate is terrible. Below 60 cents two days ago. Many of us are being priced out of the market. Tourists from the US are having a bonanza here in Australia

There are a few models listed on your website that I've been eyeing for some time. Once I'm ready to purchase again, I'll probably snag a few. I really hope that no matter the situation, your business will be one of those that stay alive. It's rare to find brick and mortar stores carrying diecast airplanes and there's always a special joy when it comes to shopping at one. Maybe it's the shared passion for the hobby, or the childhood nostalgia of brick and mortar shopping before major online retailers became a thing. I used to browse around Aiken's Airplanes back in the day, but really there are only a handful out there left, including DGPilot. Would love to be able to shop in person one day.

We haven’t gotten any flak, I can’t speak for other retailers, though some have jumped the gun prematurely and already raised prices on current inventory. We won’t raise prices again until we see it on paper, that could be next week or whenever. But we will never adjust prices on inventory we already have and own.

Ya waffle put a dumb trump tax just to make a few more bucks on each order, i guarantee he didn't pay extra to import these models
