Is Azul in crisis?

Yep.
On international routes, they bit more than they could chew, and they are facing lots of passenger complains due to their aircraft.
They have leased 767s and 777s from EuroAtlantic and A330s from HiFly. One of the 767s have been quite a maintenance hog, leading to cancelled flights and lots of passenger backlash. The inaugural flight from Recife to Madrid was cancelled 2 or 3 times in a row just because of technical issues on the EuroAtlantic 767. Passengers complain about being an "old and unsafe" plane lol.

They have also added two ex-Air Asia A339s... PR-ANB and ANC. Albino birds.
These had high-density interiors and no IFE. Azul deployed these birds on the USA routes and passengers hated it with a passion.
I've heard these birds were returned to lessor but are now back with Azul, and they will undergo cabin retrofit

Due to their financial difficulties, the Campinas - Paris (ORY) route was dropped and the widebody fleet is being restructured.
5 A330-900s are due to leave and these will much probably go to the ABRA Group, owner of Gol. However, Azul will keep a few A339s (the fleet of NEOs won't be retired for good), and 5 more A330-200s are coming in from ITA Airways.

On the domestic side... they have the lowest wages and now LATAM have bought lots of E195-E2 and, of course, they need pilots for these birds. So what did LATAM do? They offered a huge initial bonus $$$ for pilots already rated on the E2. And guess who have E2-rated pilots who complain about low wages? That's right... Azul. So basically there's a diaspora of pilots leaving Azul to LATAM right now.

A kind of Chapter 11 restructuring fleet and society. A330-900neo phased out, E-Jets delivery postponed and 35% fleet reduced.

A339s will not be completely phased out and Azul is still taking delivery of E-Jets right now.
Some other planes are being returned to lessors indeed

Good news for the B757-200 and B757-300, for Delta Air Lines and for all USA spotters and enthusiasts: a recent interview with Delta CEO discovered airline B757 future.

"Delta plans to keep its Boeing 757s operational well beyond 2030, potentially into the late 2030s. Despite their advanced age (average age of about 27 years for 757-200s), these paid-off aircraft are economical to operate and essential for high-density routes, gradually being replaced only by Airbus A321neos.
Key points about the Delta B757 fleet:
Extended service life: The Boeing 757s are expected to fly for Delta until the late 2030s, said the company's fleet manager.
Economics: As fully paid-off and depreciated aircraft, operating costs are low despite maintenance expenses and fuel consumption.
Phased Replacement: The Airbus A321neo is replacing part of the fleet, but delivery delays (including the 737 MAX 10) are further pushing the 757 phaseout.
Use: The 757-300s are particularly popular for their high capacity (234 seats) on busy routes.
Fleet Size: Delta operates 88 Boeing 757-200s and 16 Boeing 757-300s".
