[1:400] Jangada - Ada Rogato Int'l Airport

E-Jets would only be around late 2000s. Azul was founded in 2008 and was the first E-Jet operator here in Brazil.
TRIP also got theirs around 2009, so early 2000s era wouldn't see E-Jets at all. And, to be honest, modern traffic is not really the goal of my diorama at all 😅
Meant to say the 145 family my bad, I believe those popped up in like the 90s

The year is 1997 and here are three classic widebodies of Brazilian aviation in that era.
Three different types, three different airlines, three different airplane manufacturers.
VASP A300, Varig DC-10 and Transbrasil 767 were an ordinary sight in many cities in Brazil, including Jangada, of course! Wonderful days when these big machines were deployed in short domestic sectors.

This looks great!

Thank you so much! This project have been a dream to me since I started collecting 1:400 models in 2020. The airport was finally completed in 2023 🥰 you can see the construction phase here
It's awesome. And the pictures are amazing. You really get the feeling of standing there having a cold guarana while watching planes.🤣 I intend on making a fictional airport also at some point. I have too many models with no airport to land at.

Thank you so much, José! That's exactly the kinda vibe I want to represent with these pics! 🥰
Your diorama will be very cool, something to look forward! Specially if you display some of your nice customs on it.
My diorama project would definitely not be able to exist without custom models.

YEAR: 1983
Classic birds sharing the ramp in this 1983 picture: in a sunny day, a Cruzeiro 737 is parked next to a VASP 727, while a Varig 727 taxies at the background. Days when JT8D engine sounds were the norm in Brazilian airports, and many other airports worldwide.

YEAR: 1985
A meeting of two 727s in Jangada ground. Transbrasil 727-100 pushes back, while a VASP 727-200 is on the takeoff roll on runway 02. Interesting to compare the different length of both 727 versions.

YEAR: 1986
Transbrasil 767 shares the ramp with a Varig A300 in this great pic from 1986. At the background, the tail of a Transbrasil 707 can also be seen. The Atlantic Ocean and the palmtrees make a lovely tropical scenery... one of the highlights of planespotting in Jangada!

YEAR: 1986
At the time, the Airbus A300 was the biggest aircraft operated by VASP, and it was widely used in domestic routes. Here, one of their A300s have just completed push back, probably performing flight VASP 165 to Recife, Salvador and São Paulo. Beautiful sunset light for this classic widebody.

YEAR: 1989
Aerial view of the ramp and part of the terminal at the end of the 1980s. The Iberia DC-10 was always a great visitor, a truly attraction to many enthusiasts in Jangada since their Madrid flights began in 1987. Next to the DC-10, a smaller but also wonderful trijet: a Varig 727, a workhorse of our Brazilian Star in domestic services. A Varig 737-200 can also be seen taxiing to runway 02 for departure.

Ano 1989-08.jpg

YEAR: 1990
This Anglo Cargo 707 visited Jangada for a couple of days in May 1990, on a tech stop while flying from London Luton airport to Montevideo, Uruguay. Seen here parked on a remote stand near the passenger terminal, with a Varig 767 ready for pushback at the background. This same 707 visited Jangada in at least one other occasion aswell.

Ano 1990-02.jpg

YEAR: 1991
Push back completed for this VASP A300, ready for another domestic flight. Not so friendly skies at the background: some dark clouds can be see closing in. Judging by the position, this A300 will probably taxi to runway 20 instead of the more usual runway 02 operation.

Ano 1991-10.jpg

YEAR: 1995
Smooth as a butter... this lovely VASP MD-11 is photographed right during touchdown on runway 02, with smoke coming out of the tires. Finishing another hop from Fortaleza as VASP 165, and then continuing to Recife, Salvador and finally São Paulo.

Ano 1995-06.jpg

YEAR: 1996
Busy ramp on this aerial view of the ramp in year 1996. Varig DC-10, two Transbrasil 767s, VASP and Varig 737s and even a Challenge Air Cargo 707 at the remote stand. This 707 used to perform a few charter flights from Miami to Jangada, specially bringing in electronics and industrial material. The Transbrasil 767 with orange wings, so exotic! All the birds seen in this picture are long gone, and are very missed!

Ano 1996-10.jpg

YEAR: 1998
Skyjet was a Belgian charter airline, and their rare DC-10-15 visited Jangada on a charter operation in December 1998. I believe she was bringing in passengers from a tour operator. The DC-10, registered V2-SKY, is seen here at very early dawn during pushback for the departure back to Europe. A very nice and rare visitor! A curious fact about this bird: it was registered in Antigua (V2 reg) instead of Belgium (OO reg).
