Hello!
If you haven't seen the construction thread, please take a look by clicking here!
This is the thread of my current diorama, it's a fictional airport situated in the timeline between years 1982 and 1998.
A great way to represent the classic Brazilian aviation, much beloved by many!

By the way, I've just created the Instagram page for the diorama, so please click on the image below and give a follow :D

Enough of history, let's go for the pics.
Keep in mind that these are old pictures, taken by planespotters and enthusiasts using analog cameras, so the quality isn't the best! ;)
Fasten your seatbelts and enjoy!

YEAR: 1982
We're in 1982 and the Boeing 727 was a true workhorse in Brazilian domestic aviation. Here, three 100 series 727s can be seen on the ramp. Cruzeiro was already fully owned by Varig, but still kept operating their own colors up to the early 1990s. At the background, a Transbrasil 727 taxies by. Those were the days of the classics!

Ano 1982-05.jpg

YEAR: 1984
One of Varig A300s is seen pushing back, with a quite stormy background. A King Air can also be seen on the runway.
Varig only had a pair of A300s in their own colors: PP-VND and VNE. The other two A300s had Cruzeiro colors and were registered as PP-CLA and CLB.

Ano 1984-08.jpg

YEAR: 1986
A nice overview of the ramp on a morning in Jangada. Four B737-200s can be seen, together with a Transbrasil 707. Can you smell the kerosene in the air?

Ano 1986-10.jpg

YEAR: 1987
Sunny day and the busy general aviation ramp can be seen, with two interesting birds also visible:
At the background, a VASP A300 taxies for departure on another domestic run, while a Safair L-100 is seen parked on a remote stand.
If I remember well, this Safair L-100 visited Jangada on a tech stop while flying from South Africa to Bolivia.

Ano 1987-11.jpg

YEAR: 1992
The sleek Air Holland B757-200 is seen taxiing for the departure on runway 02 at dusk.
Air Holland was one of the charter operators in the early 1990s in Jangada, bringing in some sunseekers from Europe. Route: Amsterdam - Tenerife - Jangada and return.

Ano 1992-03.jpg

YEAR: 1992
The elegant DC-10 of Varig was always an eyecatcher. PP-VMY is seen here taxiing to runway 20, while fellow Varig B737-300 departs at the background. Runway 20 operations were not that common - probably happened due to a change of the wind direction because of the stormy weather.

Ano 1992-07.jpg

YEAR: 1996
Ramp view on a day in very sunny weather. TAM Fokker 100 is seen taxiing to runway 02, with some widebodies at the background being readied for their next trips. Transbrasil B767-300ER and Varig DC-10-30s were beautiful visitors back in the days.

Ano 1996-12.jpg

YEAR: 1997
A busy ramp view in September 1997 with some very nice birds of that era. Transbrasil B737-400 can be seen pushing back for a short flight to Recife. TAM F100 and Transbrasil 767 are also present - two very common birds in Jangada. A Varig B737-300, already sporting the new Landor livery, can be seen squeezed between the widebodies. At the top, two amazing classics: Iberia DC-10 and VASP MD-11. Iberia had regular flights from Madrid to Jangada, always using their DC-10s. Let's not forget the eyecatching Itapemirim Cargo B727-200F at the top of the image, resting in a remote stand.

Ano 1997-09.jpg

YEAR: 1998
Under a heavy downpour, this Varig MD-11 can be seen speeding up on runway 02, departing to São Paulo (GRU).

Ano 1998-01.jpg

That's it for the moment. Stay tuned for more! ;)

Beautiful! Also love how the background match the 3D airport 🤩 From these pictures, I guess you use different backgrounds (runway side) for different weather or time of the time 🤔
Looks really good, great job!

Thank you! I have two printed background pictures: the mountains and the sea, and I like to change the sky on Photoshop, I just paste some different sky pictures and do some adjustments :) the background is real, I just change the sky

I understand why the sky was changing now 😄 Thanks for the explanation

YEAR: 1983
Varig B727-100, a beautiful triholer and a venerable workhorse for many years in Brazil! PP-VLF is seen taxiing to runway 20 in this early 80s picture. The brand new VASP A300 can also be seen at the background.

Ano 1983-08.jpg

YEAR: 1983

A very colorful overview of the ramp in 1983! Two Transbrasil 727s with different wing colors... these were always a pleasure to look.
The livery worn by the VASP 737 was also brand new at the time, but it didn't last long, since it was replaced by a new livery in 1985.

Ano 1983-05.jpg

YEAR: 1987
A very nice visitor on a sunny day in Jangada: this Flying Tigers DC-8 is seen holding short on runway 02, in the last days of year 1987.
I believe this was a military charter flight from the USA to an African destination, and this classic came in for a fuel stop before crossing the Atlantic.

Ano 1987-16.jpg

YEAR: 1988
Beautiful afternoon scene in November 1988! Transbrasil B767-200 PT-TAB (the one with the orange wings, titles and details) makes her way to runway 02 for departure, while the elegant Iberia DC-10 arrives at the background, finishing the trip from Madrid Barajas.

Ano 1988-12.jpg

YEAR: 1988
Time for the night flight back to Madrid! Pushback completed for the stunning DC-10-30 EC-CLB of Iberia, seen here on a pleasant night in October 1988. Photo taken from the great panoramic terrace of the passenger terminal.

Ano 1989-01.jpg

YEAR: 1991
Another beautiful day in Jangada! Now we are in the early 1990s, in a sunny day in September 1991. A perfect day to enjoy the beach, or just go to the airport and enjoy the classic birds of the era! Here, the gorgeous Varig 767 PP-VOJ pushes back for the flight back to São Paulo (GRU), while a Cruzeiro 727 can also be seen at the background, taxiing to runway 02.

Ano 1991-09.jpg

YEAR: 1994
A smooth touchdown for this very exotic visitor: Air Afrique A310! This was their very first flight to Jangada: February 12th, 1994.
Back in the early 1990s, a few years before the founding of the the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (in Portuguese: "Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa - CPLP"), the Brazilian government signed a partnership agreement with a few African countries, such as Angola, Mozambique, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde and Ivory Coast, to invite citizens of these countries to Brazil, specially young students to attend Brazilian universities. After a few meetings between the countries involved, it was decided to establish an air link between Santa Esperança island and the African continent. Air Afrique stepped in and, in 1994, began operating a weekly Abidjan - Jangada service with their A310 fleet. Plagued by delays and other technical issues faced by the airline, the route was sadly discontinued in 1996.

Ano 1994-09.jpg

YEAR: 1995
Nordeste B737-500 PT-MNC pushes back for a quick hop to Recife, with the beautiful Varig B767-300ER at the background. A very smart livery for this little 737!

Ano 1995-22.jpg

YEAR: 1996
VASP MD-11... what a stunning bird! PP-SFA is seen here lined up on Runway 02 and ready for the takeoff, operating flight "VASP 203" to Fortaleza, Brasilia and São Paulo. Short domestic sectors on widebody jets were quite regular in the 1980s and 1990s. Those were the days!!!

Love the camera effects and night lighting 🤩 The background integration really make it look real (I really thought the landing Iberia DC-10 was real 😮) Also beautiful models 😁

The editing makes these so much better than they already are. That Iberia DC10 photo looks stunning. Next time you do a night shot can you show how do the lighting for the raw photo?

Thank you! For the night photos, I have to keep the room in the dark and use a flashlight to light up only the model and the foreground.
The resulting RAW image is still quite dark and lots of adjustments are done during photo edition
