[1:400] Jangada - Ada Rogato Int'l Airport

YEAR: 1982
In this early 1980s picture, the sleek Boeing 727-200 of VASP takes off from runway 20 in a shallow climb rate. A Varig 727-100 can also be seen at the background while taxiing. The "Super 200" 727 was once the flagship of VASP domestic operations, but were eclipsed by the A300 in the early 1980s. The 727-200 fleet was introduced in 1977 and fully retired by the end of the 1980s.

YEAR: 1984
A Cruzeiro 737-200 is seen ready to receive the passengers for another domestic flight. This wonderful livery of Cruzeiro brought much joy to aviation enthusiasts in the past, and was a daily sight in Jangada during the 1980s and early 1990s.

Ano 1984-05.jpg

YEAR: 1986
A domestic widebody meeting in Jangada on a sunny day was something very regular! The Cruzeiro A300 was always a sight to behold. The big Airbus arrives from Manaus, Belém, São Luis and Fortaleza, performing the long domestic flight SC301. Meanwhile, another remarkable bird is seen at the foreground: the beautiful Boeing 767-200 of Transbrasil, performing a flight from Fortaleza. She would soon depart to Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The panoramic terrace of the terminal was a fantastic place to see the planes come and go.

Ano 1986-09.jpg

YEAR: 1986
A rare DC-8 visitor in Jangada: this Spanish DC-8-61 visited Jangada for a fuel stop and crew rest right after crossing the Atlantic.
EC-DYY was operated by Canáfrica Transportes Aéreos and was mainly used for ad-hoc charters... like this one! I believe the final destination for this flight was Rio de Janeiro (GIG). The long bird is seen here on takeoff roll on runway 02 on a cloudy day. Jangada had lots of international visitors coming in for a fuel stop. This DC-8 was later sold, converted to freighter and operated by Fine Air in the USA.

Ano 1986-14.jpg

YEAR: 1988
The Boeing 767-200ER fleet of Varig was quite new back in 1988. The gorgeous Victor November Sierra is seen here speeding up on runway 02 on a sunny day, probably departing back to Rio or São Paulo. Varig have operated a fleet of 6 B767-200ERs, which were all delivered by Boeing in July and August of 1987.

Ano 1988-06.jpg

YEAR: 1990
Lovely domestic action on the ramp in this 1990 picture, with three VASP planes, a Transbrasil and even a Litorânea EMB-120 Brasilia squeezed in between the jets.

Ano 1990-07.jpg

YEAR: 1993
A Litorânea EMB-120 Brasilia taxies for departure to a nearby city in the island of Santa Esperança, while catering teams load up the Varig 767 with lots of meals for the passengers.

Ano 1993-13.jpg

YEAR: 1995
A wonderful picture of this big albino Jumbo of Evergreen, which visited Jangada in November 1995! N482EV is seen here at early dawn, pushback back having just finished, towbar disconnected and tug out. This classic Queen would soon be ready for taxi and departure back to Miami after performing a charter cargo flight to the island.

Ano 1995-21.jpg

YEAR: 1997
The Fokker 50 was such a neat turboprop, and a daily visitor to Jangada when operated by Nordeste Linhas Aéreas, connecting the island to Natal, Fernando de Noronha and Recife. One of these birds is seen here on the way to runway 02 for departure. At the background, another very exquisite bird: a Boeing 727 freighter of Itapemirim Cargo. This exotic 727 used to fly cargo runs from Campinas (VCP) to Jangada with a few stops along the way. The general aviation ramp can also be seen quite crowded with small planes, helicopters and business jets. Part of the control tower can also be seen.

Thank you!
For the 727 pic, I take two pictures:
One with the model on a stand, and one without the model, just the background. In Photoshop, I place both images as separate layers and erase the stand and do some adjustments also erasing the landing gears. This way, you'll have the model "flying" on the picture ;) it's always very fun to do!

The classic A300 of Varig is seen being loaded while awaiting the passengers for the next flight, while the orange wing B767-200 PT-TAB of Transbrasil begins the takeoff roll on runway 02. Some dark clouds are also rolling in!

A typical lineup of birds at the apron. VASP A300 is being loaded for the flight VASP 164 to Fortaleza, while a Transbrasil 727, Varig 737 and Cruzeiro 727 share the ramp at the background, in a remarkable scene with the main airlines of Brazil.

Aerial view of the ramp with a VASP B737-200, an Air Charter B727-200 and a Transbrasil B767-200. This Air Charter 727 was an interesting visitor! A tech stop for fuel during a charter operation from France to Cayenne, French Guiana. The 727 is ready for push back, continuing her journey after succesfully crossing the Atlantic.

Two VASP birds together in this scene: the brand new Boeing 737-300 lands on runway 02, while the veteran Boeing 737-200 awaits. A very typical scene in a beautiful day in Jangada.

Ano 1988-13.jpg

YEAR: 1990
On a Sunday in 1990, this Air France Boeing 747 diverted to Jangada while flying from Paris to Recife as Air France flight 088. A passenger with health issues had to be taken to a hospital and, due to the urgency, the crew decided to divert to Jangada instead of continuing to Recife. Too bad it was such a cloudy day, but this was probably the only visit of this Air France Jumbo to Jangada, so it's definitely a very rare catch and a big surprise for the enthusiasts!

A very pleasant afternoon in Jangada, with a smooth sunset light. Varig B737-200 takes off on runway 02, while the exotic Air Afrique A310 taxies to the stand after arriving from Abidjan. Parked up at the terminal, the iconic DC-10 of Iberia, a stunning regular visitor of the island in the past.
