V1:400 First Release Announcement

For those who had asked MyHobbyHouse has just put their order in for V1:400 so they should be listing them soon
Quick question which may or may not have already been asked but I’m fascinated by the times involved.

Say for example I wanted to produce X model on Y’s mould, I had the idea today and tomorrow I want to produce X model. What time frame approximately until X model hits the shelves and what’s the process involved in getting it from an idea to a shelf?

Always interested me how someone just comes up with an idea to make something and then it appears in stores and I have no idea what happens in between and I would love to know.

There are lots of variables involved in determining this. It can be anywhere from 3 months to 2 years depending on the manufacturer, number of releases, volume of each release, the unit costs, complexity of the chosen livery, various negotiations, their existing backlog, licensing considerations, extras like aerials and stands, selling to retailers or distributors, shipping times, tax changes and loads of other things.

I started working with Motor City on this project last November! But as this is a new brand and new relationships everywhere it has taken a lot longer.

A brand with existing relationships, small volumes and control of the process, like Aeroclassics, can do things much quicker. Larger brands can fast-track certain models, but that tends to come at a cost of the rest of the schedule. The challenge when using brands that specialise in this, like Panda and HX, is fitting in their existing order backlogs.
