Those so-called 15% or less Black Friday deals from model stores are just gimmick

0% discount definitely don't buy anything everything is a ripped off
15% discount don't buy anything either it saves you nothing if the store jacks up the price or with shipping fee, you may find a seller with no discount for cheaper
20% discount you probably want to grab a couple cheap a$$ models but consider how much the shipping fee
25% discount it's starting to sound reasonable, it's your take
30% dream on! do you think retail stores want to lose $ to fulfill your collection? :ROFLMAO:

In today's unpredictable economy and massive layoffs if you are still working your butts off for models, you better spend wisely and don't fall into those cheap a$$ 15% of less Black Friday trap (y)

Had to take a second look at this, because I thought this was a spam thread at first glance.
Mr. Lorenzo, your threads are mostly controversial or derogatory in some way. I kindly ask you to stop this. Not because it's offensive (it isn't really) but because they make you seem stupid and don't bring anything relevant to MAF community 😒

I don't quite understand, would you rather buy something at normal price than discounted?

While I wouldn’t call it a “gimmick” like what the OP referred as, I somewhat agree that 15% discount is very minimal and barely covers the shipping fee.

Actually, the 15% discount doesn’t really entice me of placing an order right away, unless the store is the only one selling the model and it’s discontinued or about to sell out. In other words the 15% is not the sole reason I'm placing the order. I would even during non-holiday period.

I did the math and compared two stores with and without the Black Friday 15% discount.

Here’s the comparison:

I am using Jetcollector WITHOUT the 15% Black Friday discount and MTS Aviation WITH the 15% Black Friday discount.

Surprisingly, I would only save $0.13 (13 cents) if I ordered it from MTS with the 15% discount. Why is that? Because each store sets its own selling price. There’s no MSRP that retail stores follow. So if the store with the 15% discount sells it a lot more expensive it’s going to come down to be the same or even higher.

MTS (15% discount) : $161.63

Jetcollector (without 15% discount) : $161.76

If you look at the above comparsion, Jetcollector also includes sales tax and MTS doesn't. So if Jetcollector was like MTS without tax that means MTS with the 15% discount would cost even more than Jetcollector without discount. If that's the case, the 15% discount becomes completely useless.

My advise is to shop around for the lowest possible retail price and see if there's one without shipping or even sales tax, which I already know which one

. So with above example the holiday 15% sale really doesn't save you much and you have to do your math to figure out the best way to save - with or without the holiday sales. What I'm trying to say is even during non-holiday period without special discount you can still save quite a lot of $ if you know how to shop around.

I agree, you gotta look at all places to find the best deals. But it is certainly no gimmick; there’s a reason why every place does Black Friday sales and has done so for decades. It’s changed though with the Internet, now the sales aren’t just on Black Friday itself but across the whole week.

Wildcat Diecast is currently running a 15% BF sale, and that increases to 20% after spending just $100; way better than any other place I’ve looked at. Got three models for a little under $130 thanks to that.
