Gold Coast Airport today had what is definitely the movement of the year so far, an 84 Year Old Douglas DC-3 currently on an around the world flight celebrating the 90th anniversary of the type's first flight back in 1936. Unfortunately, the weather was not the best for the old girl's arrival, but thankfully, the rain had stopped for her arrival.
We only have 6 airworthy DC-3s in Australia, none of which operate anywhere near the Gold Coast, so when one comes through, you have to go see it.
People who say that the A350 or 777 has the best sounding engines, obviously have not heard the beautiful sound that these old Pratt and Whitney radials make.

Recently, South-East Queensland has gotten a large amount of US Hercs from both the USAF and the USMC, with most of them going to Brisbane. However, Gold Coast Airport was lucky enough to receive one on Monday afternoon. 14-5807 arrived from Darwin as KANTO82 and left the next morning for RNZAF Base Whenuapai in Auckland.
This is the third US registered Herc that OOL has seen in a month, N130CG on the 27th of February on its way back to the US. 168072 of the USMC on the 6th of March, and 14-5807 on the 23rd of March. No idea why the USMC and USAF Hercs have been coming through, but I'm not complaining, it beats the monotony of Qantas and Virgin 737s and Jetstar A320s.

This plane is now in the news, but just a month ago, she made a stop in ATL clearly showing the need for a new paint job. I can’t wait to see the rest of the fleet getting some new colors, because RKR was not the only one in need of a refresh.

I do miss those 748s running the daily ICN-ATL, they were our crown jewel. Even with the frequency increase from KE33/34, it still feels empty without it.

Back in 2017 kind of times it was the A380 - my dad would take me to see it often from the cell phone parking lot

Yea, it sporadically comes from time to time. I caught 7638 sometime in Nov or Dec during an equipment swap, so I have a nice before and after shot of her.

I don't go spotting often but ORD has kind of garbage locations for spotting if you aren't in the terminal. The small street called Gateway Rd is almost directly over the approach/takeoff off 10C, and has great views, but it is wind-dependent and the backlight is awful if it is cloudy
